Wuss Puss is back in. Just spoke to Joe who said he will give me his G500 if anything happens to mine. (Cheers Joe!). See you all Sunday morning.

That good then, and as for the wheels, I am a generous guy, I will swop permanently if that is what you really want to do.

Now who said I'm selfish?

BTW I've got the engine running as it should again, now I just need to change the broken rear spring, but they came today, so hopefully I'll have a rear suspension again by Sunday.

The weather looks like it’s improving (still a little early for it to be truly accurate)

Guys. Im seriously considering pulling out of the weekend plans. The weather still seems pants with heavy rain likely on Sat and Sunday. Plus I've got 19" road tyres which are unlikely to manage with anything remotely tricky. The last thing I want to do is hold you guys up or damage my car.

I havent made up my mind yet, but certainly thinking about it!

Modificata, I get your concern. My G is no doubt in a more “used” condition than yours and does have a few battle scars. BUT I don’t damage or abuse my cars. There is no need to abuse them no matter how tricky the situation.
If your concerns are going to spoil the fun it’s not worth it though. So my suggestion would be to come along and as soon as you don’t like the look of the situation you could just park up and hitch a ride with someone else and pick your car up later.

Don’t be wound up by the macho posturing (me included) we’re just winding each other up/having a laugh :)

Co ordinates for the Plas Yn Dre Pub are 52 54.642N 3 35.895W, the car park is at the rear.

I think you may struggle to find somewhere to get breakfast on a Sunday before 9am, but I could be wrong.

Re: Wales Mountain Trip

Joe & Modificata, just to give you some hope on your standard road tryes you will be relieved what a bog standard RR on road tyres did at the weekend.

I think Russ280 will concur that whilst we have not had rain like the Lake District round here its been WET for that last two weeks.

So me and the Rangie needed to go and collect 5 new Oxford Sandy Black piglets from Glyn Geriog only one problem the trailer is a double axle 12 foot IW parked in the middle of a very wet very slippy field and the tractor had a flat battery.

I was frankly amazed I got in never mind got out with the extra weight of the trailer but it did!

I will however be very circumspect at the weekend about water above mid door height! It might have grip but far to much vunerable electronics.......

However I have to say the mud splashes half way up the doors and the grass hanging off the mud guards looked very non RR :D

So go on even a hopeless off roader like a RR can do it.....

Re: Wales Mountain Trip

Cristo,

what is the planned finishing time on Sunday?

I was gently reminded (well more gently than Tiger Woods was :D ) by SWMBO that we have a social engagement on Sunday late afternoon/evening, luckily Bala to home is 45 minutes

Provided of course I haven't broken it trying to keep up with the G's....

We are planning to finish between 3 and 4, depending on how early we can set off in the morning, so if everybody is there for 9, fueled and loaded, we'll be back at 3.

I accepted that I am no good, so I stopped trying. Now I'm the eco-friendly guy, didn't you smell the fish & chips when I started my engine? Or was it home made bacon today?

I will start to do off roading in a horse cart next.

Yea right

Thanks for sorting an excellent day Christo. Shame the weather wasn’t kind to us but it was still a great social event, nice to meet old and new faces and some diversity on the vehicle front.

Pity they wouldn’t let us do the tuff LR routes, you’ll have convince them for a return trip

Thanks again,
Russ

Re: Wales Mountain Trip

Well now I am back - let’s start with the Niceties.

LEEU - Great venue, thanks for sorting it out and planning, t'was great to meet you and your family. The routes were interesting and I think at one stage I decided to actually drop down to low range and *gasp* use my centre dif!

However , and I suppose revenge is rather sweet on a cold platter.... just had to love your toboggan run, it certainly was not fish and chips I was smelling as you sailed past, sideways! :P :P :P Those welsh mountains be they 5' or 50' can get slippery............ (Also did not see you trying to get back up - would have happily towed you up if you would have asked! )

Rus, Shauny, Peter (Perfect), Howard & Son, Piggy and Modificata - great to see you all again, looking forward to the next one!

G-Day, Easy (and your mates in the amazing Syncro), Chillipepper hope you had a great day, real pleasure to meet you all - and Please feel free to try the 'River Bend' challenge - I am sure LEEU will be able to show you how it's done in his son's peddle car! (Just make sure he stops before hitting the water!)

Hmmmn Disappointed that they would not take up the 'difficult' Land Rover section....... is that because we actually did go up the difficult section or they just did not want us to walk it?

Grendle - hope you get your G sorted out :(
and

Did anyone see PRWALES? - Did he slip in and then slip out? or it must have been his bead collection, maybe he popped down to take a look a tase's Wheels?

All The Spider1V Clan had a great day - and should we not see you before xmas, we all hope you have a great holiday and look forward to seeing y'all in 2010!

Christo

thanks a mill for organising the event, but you could have least sorted out the weather! I mean it was hardly challenging! Seriously though we all had a great time. The only shame was that I couldn't get to say hello to everyone as everytime we stopped the rain started.

Nadia loved it too, which is a shame cos next time she will want to drive again. Seriously impressed with how the road tyres managed on the slippy stuff. I dunno what PRWales keeps complaining about!

Anyway I'll be back for the next event. I've got the bug now!

Thanks all for all the advice, and to joe for the encouragement.

Signing out.

Re: Wales Mountain Trip

Cristo,

Thanks for organising a great day and you arranged for proper welsh weather how thoughful :D .

The results of your home made smoker smelt good, my pigs are rightly looking nervous

A good day, the daily driver back in one piece, honour held up for Solihul although at one point I did wonder but those water shy electonics just sorted out the traction, mind you the down hill bits are very uninvolving with HDC. Unless of course it was watching the toboganning

What was obvious to everyone who follwed me at different points of the day was that the G's tow ball is mounted in a lot better place that my after market witter version. Mind you it does add some tension to the drive when you hear a lovely scrapping noise at every entry point to a step climb. Maybe its a novel gravity brake to help slow you when going backwards after an over ambitious climb......

Thanks again, good to see old faces and new as well as meeting up with the Avatars! hope to see you all again in 2010.

regards John

does that meeting involve how much beer you should drink and how late you should stay up drinking beer ?

christo, well done for arranging the meet up, a little tame for me but good nonetheless, im glad he catered for the shinys as I did worry if he was going to chuck em in at the deep end and scare them off for good. weather was shit !

More seriously, thank you very much for everyone who came, it was good meeting up at last. The weather did keep the sosialising down a bit, but as G-day said, this is Wales, so it was good to experience it as it is.

I too think it was a good introduction for some of the less experienced, but scenic enough for the hard beards.

One driver still hasn't paid his £40, so if you know you haven't paid, please arrange payment with me.

Thanks again.

Wow looks like you all had a good time! I'm really sorry i missed it.

Tried to bring the 460 but on doing checks found the Rad had gone!!!!! Not a happy weekend.....thought about LR ownership briefly (very!) then came to my senses.

Fab photo Mr Perfect!

Went back to the Garage this afternoon....good job I had the weekend to cool down! They did look a bit worried. The very cold calm approach seemed to work and they've promised to put everything right. I'm still going to get it checked out independently because this car was mint and original...and will be again!
Now Febuary I'll be back in Bangor for a couple of days so.............

A fantastic day out thank you Christo!

Apart from the mud really pleased with the LC, however half way round with the girls giggling as we carrered down a steep descent I asked the girls which car they prefered? You guessed it the prefered Daddies old 'bumpy G' ''we'd have got thru the mud Daddy!

best quote of the day by my 5year old when we couldn't get through the mud.
