I think the nasty UK weather has moved east to Belgium...
We are in trouble now with blank roads, water filled basements and blown away rooftops...
Is it getting better over there yet?

Re: Wales Mountain Trip

All paid up and b&b booked, if I get there early enough on Saturday I might do a bit of White water rafting at the centre!

Are we meeting at that pub for a beer on sat eve?

Re: Wales Mountain Trip

Both the white water rafting and the beer sounds good to me, although the river might be a bit high for rafting.

I have been in the area on Sunday and I must tell you it is WET! The guy leading the group is very experienced, but I think we should still throw a few tow ropes in.

Re: Wales Mountain Trip

Is there anyone joining this trip that lives near London or Camebridge?
If so, do you have enough space in your truck to carry 4 30" wheels?
I am trying to get 4 wheels to a fellow GWOA member in Cambridge with a London office.
If anyone can help, please shout?
You will be thanked with a fine selection of Belgian beer!

Yes I do, but are the tyres on aswell as they take up to much room, anyway what boat are you taking, if Dover then for you it's m20, m25,m11 drop off wheels at Cambridge, then m11 to a14, m6 then wales !

I also think that will be best way of doing it. Let him meet you at the service station on the M11.

Btw. I will come with the 463, the engine isn't blown. All fixed and rolling. (rolling very slowly with these big wheels though)

It's better for you to go m11 rather than m25 m40 as the roadworks are a nightmare so you won't see much difference in time

Well there’s snow on the Berwyn’s around Bala today. Some frost and then some snow would be ideal for next Sunday.

More likely to be wet sloppy mud though, did I mention that I don’t like mud?

a friend of mine but a Quattro turbo in a synchro pick up...120mph plus machine. Others have put flat 6 Porsche engines in them, very capable and adaptable machines if a little rust prone.

Re: Wales Mountain Trip

well for those of you that remember my mitsubishi delica in the V gully last year, I shall be bringing that now instead, but i have modified it a bit, its the first one you see on this vid. By the way the BBC use to have crew cab synchro's , then they bought landrovers, they would have been a good purchase at the time, very low miles.

Well I am glad I'm in a G, call me boring, but I think I would like a Wrangler or even a LR before I will be seen in a Africa taxi.

Coming from a semi-dessert country I am obviously very keen and knowledgeable on and in the mud. I think I should have gone for those 325/70 16's after all.

Re: Wales Mountain Trip

We all have to meet in Bala on Sunday morning 9:00 at the Plas-Yn-Dre car park just off the main street just behind a statue. Bala isn't very big, so I don't think it would be difficult to find.

PM me, and I will PM my mobile number to whoever needs it. The organisers' number for emergencys is 07802840444.

Everybody who hasn't paid please bring cash, I have paid for the day, but will need to get the £40's.

The time is drawing near now, so no more big talk, it is almost time to do the walk!

See you Sunday.

I'm not sure Russ, but don't push them on the road, it makes your steering very hard and funny clack, clack sounds comes from the wheels when you turn to tight.

In South Africa the best 4x4 is a hired Carolla, maybe bring that Taxi. If it is a LTI it will at least get further than the Taxi 3.

Guys. Im seriously considering pulling out of the weekend plans. The weather still seems pants with heavy rain likely on Sat and Sunday. Plus I've got 19" road tyres which are unlikely to manage with anything remotely tricky. The last thing I want to do is hold you guys up or damage my car.

I havent made up my mind yet, but certainly thinking about it!

Re: Wales Mountain Trip

The route will have difficult areas, but these will be optional, so you and the newish RR are both on road tyres, but will be fine. If you do feel you want to try some more challenging bits, there will be enough experience and tow vehicles to assist. Seriously, your G will surprise you with what it can do on standard wheels. I am sure you have read about my experiences recently, and they were all done on 225/70 16 road tyres.

Don't worry, bring the car, you will both be fine.

PS Worst case scenario I will swap wheels with you.

Re: Wales Mountain Trip

I'm on completly standard road tyres with 2 diff locks, my team for pushing consists of two girls 5 and 3!

I'm quite confident with the diff locks that we'll be fine, if we need to avoid a couple of sections we will but I'm always amazed at the traction at least one wheel will find on any given surface, diff locks are the key to progress, good tyres are the icing on the cake!

Worse case scenario Sunday lunch in front of fire in local pub!

Don't be a 'Wuss Puss' - and you doing a three month trip to Australia???? Maybe a Range Rover may be more you style!

Seriously - even when I had the high performance tyres on my G I was really surprised how well they did! The only problem I had was with driving in clay - but I don't think there is much around that neck of the woods!

Comon go get your G Dirty! (Or you just gonna do a Goochie and get out and polish it every 5 Mins!!!  8) )

Joe you make me laugh mate! Firstly I'm not gonna do a Goochie. My car certainly is not a garage queen, and you wont find a valet kit in my boot.

Fine let me think about it and i'll decide tonight. I appreciete the support Leeu to tow me out etc, but damaging the car does worry me. I need to make wure i have a car to get to Oz!
