The guys I deal with have a very hard time - while I can not comment on life out there, (which looks great) and do not wish to cast any aspersions on our European friends - they do have their work cut out to address some of the topics on this list.
While the Bulgarian Economy is rapidly growing, I would pose this simple question ' When the whole world is going through the beginnings of a recession, one must ask JUST how some economies are surviving?'
Without giving too much away My role in life is to deal with Serious Crime and my company is the world leaders in addressing both the causes and Serious Crime itself. So I come at this with some knowledge both from a Global perspective as well as a regional one.
I think that the pioneering spirit of all expats is something to look up to and if my circumstances were different I would be out there experiencing the wonderful things that you both are doing, however with two kids and other responsibilities I would find this too much. :(
Please do keep your posts going, as they are fascinating to read, however as a lawyer - I would also ask that you provide a case for the 'prosecution' as well as the 'defense' :lol:

Well Bulgaria won't show in such a list as they have just entered the EU relatively recently. But if you look at the global homicide rate per capita you will find that Bulgaria is about 50% higher than Britain.
Also look at the reason it took so long for Bulgaria to join the EU.... the level of crime was considered unacceptable to EU standards.

and Bulgaria IS TRYING and those that live here can see it, Bulgarian Pensioners where the happiest people here the Government Doubled their Pensions over night when we joined the Eu January 1st 2007.
What does the UK goverment do for the UK pensioners, close down Old peoples homes/care homes and make them private so now they have to pay from proceeds of their houses that they own !

That's true! I am studying this very thing at the moment... Bulgaria is criticized for her unacceptable level of corruption and lack of commitment in combating human trafficking... At least that's what I read

You're right I meant to say Corruption Capital of Europe. But regardless it doesn't change the fact that the most recent figures for homicide rates from 2007 show that it is still significantly higher than the UK and this is after a dramatic decrease in their homicide rate....

Sorry but as the post was about Bulgaria being safe i think it is safer for the general public, after all corruption will not affect those that we are talking about coming here for a better life, which is what i have been saying all along and that it IS SAFER TO LIVE HERE, than the UK.

lol - you conveniently seem to have missed the fact that Bulgarua has a 50% higher homicide rate per capita than the UK. That is no small difference.
As for a higher crime rate in the UK, I am sure it has to do with reporting... from what I understand most crimes don't get reported in Bulgaria.

i must also agree on the point that slating this country is wrong.
i was born in the uk, turkish cypriot origin and very proud too. i am also moving back to n cyprus i the new year [god willing] but i will never slate this country.
no place is perfect, any you cannot run away from problems or give up a fight.
at the end of the day lifes what you make it.
and i will miss england when i'm gone, despite the weather and the busy lifestyle and visiting my nan in Hackney almost every sunday.

I have over 3700 HAPPY CLIENTS that are now involved with Bulgaria, ALL ARE SAYING HOW THE UK HAS GONE DOWN HILL, are they all wrong ? Why did they leave the UK ? If it was so good ? Its their lives and ALL of them are saying its the best thing they have ever done.
