Is it cool in Bulgaria to own an extortionately expensive car and park it as badly as possible? And is that small green truck next to the SLR (non-bulgarian plates???) the local clamping firm? :P

It all sounds marvellous Anna. I have a very good friend, a Mr A Daley who is very well connected and respected in the motor trade, if you want to send me 50 or 60 grand ( £'s ) I’m sure I could get you a few classic motors at a very good price, I know he has a very nice Capri for sale at the moment, one careful owner, and all that. :wink: :D

Picture reminds me. I was driving through London the other day and while waiting at the lights some guy ran across the road to hug my G. The two girls I was with were laughing in hysterics... unable to believe that some stranger would come up to a car and do that.

I had a owner of a classic car garage try and stop me leaving his forcourt and swop my G for one of these - but I was on holiday with 3 children at the time and wasn't too sure where I would fit them all in!

According to Classic Cars magazine (November 2008).. 'In 2000 a first-class 290 SL would have realised £40,000-45,000, but today you're looking at £50,000-55000.'
You really should have driven back to the dealer after dropping off your children back home!

I think probably closer to £30-35,000 unless it was low mileage and coucours condition. But regardless I am sure Helen is now kicking herself...

I'm not sure it was in the first class condition needed for that value, 'restoration project' seemed more likely. I don't have the time or cash for 'restoration projects' you only have to look at my G to realise that. But i do seem to remember that the childrens behaviour made me kick myself later on that day - I should have swopped them with the G and gone solo :P
Like I said' one day' I'd love a project like that. I drove past his forecourt this summer, sadly he no longer sells fuel but had loads of classic bargains out front, just looking for a new home :)

I wouldn't really trade my children for a car - it was just a momentary thought, under EXTREME STRESS! My husband on the other hand - I might trade for a fine vintage specimen :lol:
Can't remember name of garage but its in a small, 'one horse' town called St. Just in Cornwall. About two stops from Lands End - you can't miss it :lol: The owner (if its the same man) was a charming, very chatty man who loved all things Geladenwagen. Vintage car business sounds great, I've always fancied architectural salvage myself - french style 8)

That's the one Clare (Mrs Spider1V) wants! We were at MB world and she just loves the SL300 (in Black) they have. I will not even hazard a guess at what the cost is.
But Hey - I have read the further posts - and frankly if it was one of those times when the kids have hit their 'Limit' then it would have been 'Buy, Buy and enjoy cleaning chimneys - Dad's off to take his new car out!' :P :P
Although I will say the joy of having kids always out ways those moments and boy oh boy it doesn't half teach you the proper meaning of restraint and patience! :twisted:
