Warning to all members new and old
Firstly Ian, do not include me in your pathetic little crusades. If I want to join in I will.
Secondly. Hate you? Really? You are overstating your importance.
Thirdly, your hubris in posting this is truly impressive. Don’t both looking it up. It’s not a compliment.
It’s true that I’m not impressed by your “special” sense of humour. But then it usually needs someone of equivalent or greater intellect to achieve that.
It’s true that I’m not impressed by your sarcasm. But then it usually needs someone of equivalent or greater intellect to achieve that.
Are you really impressed with what you’ve achieved here? It’s a rhetorical question. I’m not interested in a reply.
Anyway I’ve already expended too much effort on this reply.
Russ
seems the gwoa forum is alive again !!!!!
keep them coming.
mark, WTF !!!!! is that yours mate ?? its the nuts mate....
ian, you know everyone here loves you to bits , even russ. its just that some people have a funny way of showing it.
spider i love your humour mate. [and your G500! i will cheirsh that bumper for always..
dentysmith , your photos are brilliant mate.
but really i must admit that I am the best off road driver here ! ask shauny and dauny, they were following me when i almost flipped my ruby over on its side.
now on another note, where's mortinson ???????
Of course every one that met with PP would love him to bits .... But that is only if you give yourself that time to actualy met him ....Obviously some peoples on here have not gave him that chance !!!
Good god Huss do not mention any name here ....... You dont want Morty to join in on that one :-)
Blimey - this must be the longest thread for a while. I must be thicker skinned than I realised because for all the years I've been back and forth on here I have not noticed, or cared, about sarky comments. All I care about is getting a response, any response, hopefully some of which will be interesting or even helpful - mostly you get that eventually on GWOA.
So although I hardly ever get off road, and my G was not even used for a couple of dark years, I remain a big G fan and have had the same one for 20 years now and never met one of you - is that a record?
OK Olive branch time. I have met PP face to face a few times and unless he thinks differently we’ve always got on fine. So no problem from me.
Do I object to some of his posts on here? Well yes I don’t like some of what I read. That’s my opinion and my prerogative. Normally I don’t rise to it as life is too short to get excited about such petty stuff.
Anyway I’m the best off roader. I don’t even need to bother with all the macho 4x4 stuff. I’ll walk all over the lot of you in a 2wd
Seriously you wouldn’t believe some of the places I’ve been to :-)
Russ
I believe you Russ, but I stated that I believe I do the most at the moment, I never said I was any good at it.
Any way, when you come up next, bring that bling Wagen of yours so we can get some mud on her for a change, I heard a rumour the driver is getting rusty. (I’m doing Strata Florida this weekend if you’re interested)
Would love to do Strata Florida, it’s one of the few in the UK that interests me:-) unfortunately we’re off to the LLyn.
It’s not so bling at the moment, a gate post got in the way of Marie the other day. Gate post 1 G 0. I still need to come and slaughter some innocent wildlife as well! I’ll give you a ring.
Russ
Did someone mention slaughter?............don't forget us sourthern folk...we like' em too! (said in a Sourthern 'Mer'can Drawl)
Y'all be luk'in after yer'sell

marcus
it seems fred and chris made sure the dolmas were not missed hey mark....!
I'm actually quite put out that I am obviously not important enough to be insulted....
Shurrup, you don't even have a G!
Oh Very well said! :)
Happy now Audiominx?
Spider1V
Don't go insulting me to make me feel better. It won't work. Actually I do have a G, it is just in kit form.
And no, not happy now...
But I am going to see James Lafferty today to pick up lots of bits
I can understand that you are still not happy, but then again it wasn’t any of us who didn’t look where we were going, destroying some poor guys Volvo in the process. Chin up, and hand over the money, and hopefully you’ll have a G again soon enough.
Ha Ha, but he won't do it again in a hurry!
I don't have a dog in this fight but, for what it is worth, I'll say this:
This isn't a well used forum and to a new member it can read as very cliquey. You may not think it is but imho it is, plain and simple. My guess is that some of the established members are quite happy with the level of traffic and therefore, could care less if they offend; furthermore, if it keeps the balance in their favour, there is little reason to tone down their comments.
Personally, I think it is a shame that the site doesn't have a more inclusive feel because enthusiast forums can do a lot to support both the off-line community and the knowledge base. In the case of the GWOA forum, I feel both the current software and 'culture' (for want of a better way to describe the tone) don't promote either the club or the vehicle in the most effective manner.
Just my 2-pence.
I think your comments are reasonable. The only thing to be said in defence of the "clique" as you have put it is that there are only tiny numbers of G-Wagens in the UK.
This forum can never attract thousands of members and the "clique" do put in a lot of work to keep things ticking over. Considering the limited financial resources of the Association they do remarkabley well.
Personally, whether the 'clique' is effective or efficient is not the issue at hand; the concern, from my perspective, is whether that same feeling makes the club feel inclusive. As I said, in my opinion, it does not.
I have met a few of the members off-line and in discussions about the forum, their comments were along the line of, 'they are a good bunch of guys once you get to know them and once you've been out to a few events'. Whilst I can understand this logic, due to logistics and commitments (work, family, etc) this isn't necessarily possible for everyone. Again, it is only my opinion, but a large function of a forum is to create a community feel amongst members who are unable (due to the above reasons) to meet in the 'real world'. If people are made to feel unwelcome, either by conscious, subconscious or unintended actions or words, I would suggest the GWOA forum (and senior members) is (are) negating a large part of the core purpose.
I am basing my opinion on being relatively new to the club, having participated in this forum and the fact that I also run another niche UK car forum (and have done so for many years).
As before, I am simply attempting add another viewpoint to the mix and offer some constructive feedback.
For what it is worth, I went to the 2011 AGM having met no-one at all. I would say there were probably about 4 people there who didn't bother to come near me or make the slightest attempt to chat, but everyone else was really welcoming, to the extent that I went along to the next 'do' on my own, knowing that I would be made welcome. I definitely don't think you have to regularly attend things to get along with people. Like I said there may be a few- but I think that's what they are- a few. My job precludes me from doing too much (permanent nights) but to a certain extent, it is what you make it. I think you will always get cliques in any walk of life. Just gravitate to those who aren't that way inclined!
When I had my crash in January, I was overwhelmed by the amount of support and advice I had from people, whether I had met them or not, the majority not. It is thanks to people on this site that I have got all the parts, secondhand or new to repair it. My technical knowledge is limited to say the least and sometimes the stuff on here goes over my head, but it is good to know that the knowledge is out there for the taking if needed. Also amusing to read the ongoing comments.
I have had many conversations on the site with people I haven't met, although may do so one day at an event. I think banter goes with the territory, give as good as you get.
I am also relatively new to the club joining at the start of last year and now am very glad I did for all the help in the past two months
I manage to offend people in person without even trying but I do hope that I don't do so on the forum!
Theres no cliquishness in the GWOA, thats just a viscous romour started by outsiders, and Land Rover drivers. ;-) lol
A viscous rumour eh? Is that just a porous one as opposed to a vicious rumour which is much nastier. And didn't I get accused of being a splitter I seem to remember?
from the Slayer of Volvos
LOL,, very good. Clearly an error in transmission. :-)
And whoever accused you of being a splitter.
PP I seem to recall. But in the nicest possible way.
I went along to the AGM and was glad i did. Friendly, informative with Very good food. I did want to chat to Audiominx (and bore you to death about old Saabs) but didn't manage to due to some much else going on and an early retirement.
I will agree with the sentiment mentioned about cliquei-ness (spel). It is fairly prevalent on this forum and is if not intimidating for a new member, like myself slightly exclusive. In real life its not a problem but in text form it doesn’t give you that nudge you need to make a comment which a good thread can do.
Bottom line i would still like to get more involved and you get out what you put in.
I HATE Radio1 not land rover owners
What is Radio 1..?
Its like radio 2 but with more nose.. But not as good as 6 music..
Its like radio 2 but with more nose.. But not as good as 6 music..
yeah, 6 music is great in the car, especially drive time:)
Is that a subliminal way of saying Radio 2 (which I do like) plays only Barry Manilow and Barbra Steisand ???????
Kerrang!
Now you really ARE showing your age!
3, 5+, 6, and 7 (ie 4+) are worth the licence fee......1 & 4? One I've grown out of and Four I've grown sick of......
Agreed. And I work for them. Well. the BBC anyway.
And I HATE BBC3. Just for pissed people coming out of pubs. What a waste of public money
As a new member, I can only agree with aero94.
Thank you gtdennis, your post was very constructive ...
True to say you were made so unwelcomed by the cliquely group on your first and only post on that forum !!!!!! soooo unwelcomed that you only came back tonight to agree with aero94 ....
Was the red carpet not thick enough for you Sir ??
Oh yes, fine example of a constructive post. Not!!
Edit: It's been pointed out that my post isn't clear, I am referring to Fred's post :-)
Aha!
If you want constructive posts, I'm your man
Or something
Still Mark does nice porous ones if need be
Fredecosse, you know full well Howard put all the red carpet on eBay.
LOL,,
Well thats the last time I'll make a constructive post.
Sulking doesn't suit you
Hello Dennis,
Welcome to the GWOA,
why don't you tell us a little bit about yourself and what brings you here. If you have a g wagen then why not come to Morocco in July to get to know the VERY FRIENDLY MEMBERS on this forum.
