Anyone for camping in Morocco?
Was thinking of 2 or 3 days at our place in northern Morocco - local food and culture - markets, medinas and big big beaches, before an overnight in Fez then down to the desert for a week - sand dunes and food (laid on by me). Laid back, relaxed traveling, roadside cafes, good coffee and wild camping. Then back up into the atlas for spectacular mountains. Finally back to ours for a good service and wash the sand off. All ideas flexible at the moment. We will get you through the imigration/import stuff at the port which can be daunting sometimes. Am thinking some will want a full laid on tour and others might want a bit more freedom so we could arrange rendevous so you can take some time and space on your own. As a first suggestion how about last week in July/ first in aug? Some pictures here morocco/album http://razzi.me/albums/5519-morocco-g-wagen When the plan is clearer and we have numbers we can work out costings. There is a good airport link from Stanstead to Fez with Ryanair if anyone is short on time. We will probably be there for 4 or 5 weeks so for those who have the time to stay longer we can offer support and a little peace of mind.
What a fantastic trip.
Very interested in doing that.
Really amazing pictures, how about a few photography courses along the journey.
Tempting, very tempting. Shall I buy the wife a new car, or go on this trip, can't afford both.
think we are all going to have some FUN POLICE PROBLEMS

Any dates in mind?
ill be in saudi, where petol is £0.09 p a ltr !!!
Russ, shall we put 1 G on a trailer and send your boys down to the ferry port?
I’ve been messing about with ferry options for July / August.
Fuel cost based on 22mpg and £6.50/gal. No food / accommodation. One passenger on the ferry, no cabin. I would probably travel solo and anyone else via easyjet to Malaga
It suits me to travel from Plymouth so the options are:
Plymouth – St Malo
Total cost ferry+ fuel circa £770
Total travel time ferry+Europe around 27hrs
Plymouth – Santander
Total cost ferry+fuel circa £986
Total travel time ferry+Europe around 31hrs
Very rough calcs. and prices constantly change.
Russ
do you have a link to the barcelona ferry?
newhaven- dieppe where will we cross to morocco
Algeciras, Spain. Is one option.
I'love to be on that one, 1st week August seems quite possible for me .... shall give it some thoughts .... I am up for the cooking trip :-)
Oh well,, thats Fred excluded then. ;-)
Russ, who is the grey bearded old guy in you car? He looks kind of familiar, but I just can't place him.
Wouldnt take a range either ... youtu.be/K1FTc769rzk
really good video clips cant wait
This sounds like a great trip, I'd love to go but could not commit yet. Would it be insanely hot for a 1983 300GD with no aircon? Last time I was in Marrakech the temps hit 50C. Would it be a suitable trip for my 14yo son?
If I go I would probably take a ferry to Roscoff or Cherbourg and drive to Algeciras. At 50mph...
Eddie in Dublin.
eddie
ill be in a 89 300GD no aircon at 50mph
ive just checked with ADRIAN FLUX ins no cover for morocco
is there a plan available at the ferry port or somthing???
I will start sounding out the family and the bank manager :-)
Who knows who it was Christo. He’s lookin a little podgy too :-)
BTW I'm the blond guy driving at the beginning (honest)
Russ
Fred has just texted me, saying how excited he is about the trip. ;-)
Eddie,
My youngest daughter was 9yrs old when we first went and she (plus sons at 15 and 16 and 2nd daughter at 13) loved it. A 14yrd old I’m sure will have an absolutely brilliant adventure.
Last time I got insurance we had to wait until Azrou on day 2 to find insurance. I paid around £100 (maybe that was a special “tourist” rate Chris? :-) ). Not a comfortable feeling driving without insurance for 2 days so I’ll change to NFU and that’s one less thing to worry about.
We’ve been in July and the desert south of Zagora was a little warm! No air con and to be honest I wouldn’t use it anyway as the constant shock of 19C to 40C isn’t easy on the body. IMHO you soon become accustomed to it. Lots of fluid and as a preventative measure we drank (forced the kids to) Diaoralite type stuff. Theory being it replaces salts/minerals. Not sure about the science behind that but seemed a good idea. Not nice but kept us healthy.

So we are looking at the first week in August? Still trying to enthus the wife, my boys wll be up for it,but not my daughter. So Flux won't cover then? I feel a move to NFU coming on. Also thinking 460 rather than 463...I'll be doing 40 thru Spain, but more fun when we get there.
RE NFU looks like i will have to change as well
has any one managed to ins (modified) 617a??
with them as this is why i had to change to FLUX
in the first place
i will have to be back by realy early sept !
cant change my flights back to SE ASIA
NFU is fine with a 463 modified with a OM606 turbo, so can't see them having a problem.
A few stats:-
Diesel 60p/l
petrol 90p/l
