Anyone for camping? Updates in first post.
A few years back (2008) I put up a quiet little post asking if anyone fancied coming to Dent for a weeekend of camping, green laning and general socialising. The village is just about the prettiest in the dales http://www.gwoa.co.uk/node/4123 Not sure if the pictures will come back as it's from the old forum. Here's a link to Peter Perfects video http://web.mac.com/ianwatson158/G_Wizzer/Movie_2.html and Spider1V very flattering article in Gwizz (magnanimous in defeat;) http://gwoa.co.uk/sites/default/files/Yorkshire%202008.pdf Well one thing led to another and we ended up with about 14 G wagens. It was a fantastic event . So..................is there any interest in a rerun/reunion? 17th - 19th February Thought also that this would also serve as a warm up for a trip to Morocco too:) For those who came last time then pretty much the same except we will be based in the village of Dent, not at my previous address. For the newcomers:- turn up on Friday the 17th Feb (sooner if you like but I might be working) I live in the centre of the village, opposite the Sun Inn and spitting distance from the George And Dragon. Open house here -there will be food here of some sorts, a casserole or similar( did goat taggine last time and nobody got ill) and a barrel of beer from the local brewery though I warn you I probably have the smallest house in the village so you might have to overflow into the pub - just expect to be flexible. Saturday - breakfast ( bacon and egg butties) for those who want here. ( I might see if we can all get in at one of the cafes together) if we can try to get ready to leave by 10.30 we can have a gentle ride out over the hills to Hawes, home of wensleydale cheese (steady on grommit) and on to Semmerwater, home of Hannah Hauxwell, some may remember the TV series This is a nice first introduction to Yorkshires green lanes. Just a few miles and a few photo opportunities and on to the lake for a picnic lunch - soup and hot drinks - and anything else I can come up with. After lunch then we can go up onto the top of the hills and the offroad virgins can try out 4wd - There is a moderately challenging section which can be bypassed or assisted by gravity for the careful/conservative ( and, if the river is up some deep water for Mark and Spyder) or embrace the uphill for the bold. If you're not sure then hitch a ride with someone first. Nothing that you can't do if you want to though and no shortage of advice. Depending on time we might stop for tea on the summit (weather permiting). This should finish the afternoon nicely and back to Dent. There will be an evening meal either in one of the restaurants or village pubs and general G Wagen talk unless anyone has something more interesting???? I will introduce the idea or a GWOA trip to Morocco and if there's enough interest a small talk. After that then I think we should all adjourn to the pub to watch the locals. Sunday morning is to be decided but I will work on it, last time some went back around the green lanes and a few went caving - we have some of the best potholes in the country. There are many walks around the village and a few craft shops etc More to come!!!! The green laning is suitable for everyone except for one 1/4 mile bit which you can bypass- some pictures here that make it look worse than it is. Link fixed I hope I'll sort out a list of accomodation this evening - I'd ask you not to book for a couple of days just so we can get everybody close together around the village - sure you don't want to drive 5 miles up the valley after refreshments in the pub. And i stress again that this is a family event, not just a blokes p***up. Don't need definate commitments, just say if you're interested. So Far, in no particular order, Twodogs (polishing his volvo) Mark + any offers Fred Spider1V + family Howard (+ Tim) Shauney & Dawny Piggysims, Corinne, and son Roly Peter Perfect Stew-Em (not heard - provisional) David Pearson (not heard - provisional) Graham & Angela Grendle + son Russ280 (+ Marie LED John (with caravan) Richard Wells Gav - Helme Stuart +2 Boys (in my car) David + Catherine +kids (in a jeep !!!!) J Walker + family Me and the little lady (who I might be able to persuade to do the green lanes on her motorbike) Roughneck (if he's not on undercover opps somewhere) (is on opps doing valentines) Disclaimer:- this is not a GWOA Ltd event, just a group of like minded fools getting together for a weekends fun so don't sue me or the GWOA - neither has a bean anyway:)
Yarp , I will have some of that
Twodogs
Me too, fantastic idea,
Are Sprinter's allowed? ;-)
Chris,
Sounds good. I guess the house is finished now. It was minus 7 last time.
Will the village people be there??
I could do with some of that too ... not so sure about sprinter tought !!!!! they can be funny peoples driving thoses ...:-)
Count me in
Would be grand! Need to get a date in diary as already next year is filling up - thats problem when go having a family! Missus still thinks the 'G' is an expensive excess so desparate for some convincing comeraderie. Stewart

Shauny has asked if he can come along seeing as he is no longer a member?
Ohhhhh me feels like a challenge is gonna come on.....
If its anytime before October 2052, then I am sorry - I will not be able to make it, I am having to wait on a new bumper, and I think the first sedimentary rock that will be metal bearing is just being surveyed as we speak, so MB will have the chance to dig it up, mine it , form it, spray it, send it out and then fix it on to my G.
Failing that Looks as if Marks new sprinter could squeeze a contingent in from the south!
Oh yes, I forgot to mention to new members.... if your new to the GWOA, or missed the AGM or nenver got around to going to n event, then I would STRONGLY recomend you come along. (read my comments in above PDF - cheeers Mark)

Having had to cancel out on the last one, I'd really like to give it a shot this time around. Any dates yet?Ph
Me me me please.
Wonder if mr Pearson would like to come and bring his lovely food, not seen him
On the forum for a long time, is he still a member ?
What month are we talking about ???
Feb i would think
17th-19th Feb is the end of the school half term week - might work for those not doing anything else.
For me, I'd love to try to get the family camping, in February! But its about 250miles and my trusty G has never done a trip that sustained! I am sure it would and bashes about all over the county here and has NEVER let me down, but its a long recovery with the family if not. (well, OK I had a busted Radiator once which stopped it, but only because I didn't spot it in time)
I think I'd like to risk it, but better to be tentative only for now. i.e the intent is there, but got to line up the ducks and probably service the G
oops, double post.
What ever you do, don't travel up with Piggy, he'll be in a Disco, chances are you'll end up recovering the Disco. :-)
Bad man
Don't matter what piggy turns up in, I tend to pretend he's not there anyway, he's up and off before I'm up and in bed by 5pm.
I can only do the last weekend of Feb, not the 17/19th i'm afraid. by the way, would it be returning to the same place for the saturday night as well - wondering whether I take a trailer tent or go ground tent if we're going nomadic...ph
Your in Oxford? If we go, which is looking highly likley, if all else goes wrong there would be space in my truck... so only you have to be stuck..... :)
Spider1V
Yeah get the hint !! Your boring. Yawn.
Not long now getting excited, I'll be in the Toyots with trailer as I' ll proberbly bring the Army 12x12 tent to keep warm and would make a good social tent/bar if someone wil give me a hand to put it up.
A Toyots? What is that, or did you mean a Toyote, The Japanese Prairie Poodle?
Im sure someone will help you erect your 12x12 tent.
Is the 12'x12' tent to hide the Prairie Poodle in? Can't have Denty's neighbours talking you know.
Might make it.. will see if I am back from Brasil in time .. any "soft" accomodation joints as -5C camping would need real cosy stuff.. guess I have it but not sure I want to use it! So only a 20% likely. Hey would actually have to tax the G as currently it is just awaiting decent snow to make it worth while.. meantime a Toyoda Toy (mk1 Rav4) does duty for the other half (it actually has a centre diff lock.. so does alright).
Hi Ian
Still here, although I don't access the forum much nowadays. Good to be remembered though. I think I could be persuaded to come along with a few pies, although I'm due to become a Grandad around then !!
Happy New Year
David
Is the date fixed yet?
From thread looks like 17-19th is out, and I can't make the 17th now either. Towards the end of Feb may still work... I'm just fitting around you lot as the main instigators.
See you there Chris ,,,,,,,yarrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Plus a splinter
and a vauxhall vivaro van, unless mark wants to pick me up on the way and split fuel ?
Mark could pick us all up !!!!!!!!!
only green ones
