The darts never lie!
Spider1V
so who was the rock star then ?
As far as pulling things out when they are stuck I find this handy wee thing to be very useful. It helps that it is fitted with a 20,000lb hydraulic winch.
What the flip is that? V cool.
Argo- cat?

Glad you like it. It is a Mk1 OCTAD and was originaly built for the military.
It has a 1.8 Ford diesel engine which powers a hydraulic drive unit connected to all eight wheels. It has a waterproof hull shaped underbody which gives it a amphibious capability. It has a rear load bed with a 1 ton capacity and is fitted with a 20,000lb hydraulic winch.
It can reach around 35mph on land and around 3mph on water. It is bigger than it looks, probably twice the size of an Argocat. Steering and direction are controled by the two levers in the cab with a floor mounted acelerator pedal.
It is fitted with lights, indicators, horn etc so could be road registered if you wanted something different to take down the pub :)
The military did'nt like them very much, probably too heavy and complicated so Octad made a Mk2 and Mk3 for civilian use. But at around £18,000 each they did'nt sell very many. There are still a Few Mk3s around the UK but as far as I know I have got the only Mk1 left.
Hmm, even if I could convince the missus to get one instead of a quad (spraying mainly) it'd be a mission to find one wouldn't it? Found a couple of argocats but Kohler twins? Not a lot of power for an 8 wheeler is it?
The Octad is a lot more robust than the Argocat but then it is also a lot heavier. The hydraulic drive system also makes it more complicated to maintain.
However it has a much more torquey engine and lots more grunt when carrying a full load or towing a trailer.
I don't know if it would be a good replacement for a quad for light duties
like spraying but then at least you would be in a nice warm cab 8)
Here is an old link to an advert for a Mk3 to give you an idea of costs...
^I was trying to search for one for sale here (just curious) but they seem quite rare, but Janes has a page on them:

That is a good looking bit of kit. Unfortunately she won't let me part with that kind of dosh, we need to net our cherries this year, that'll be a few grand, and do something to stop the badgers harvesting the grapes
So, shopping list currently:
LWB G
VW T25 Caravelle Syncro
Octad
Unimog (although I can't for the life of me think of any remotely plausible excuse for buying one)
