I know this isnt a G, and strike me down for it, believe me I want one more than anything its just a small issue of cost until i qualify, but then I will be with you.

But yes, few people were asking me about it so i thought I would post some pics

Also i was wondering if any of you had any cleaning tips for leather. It had kids in it before and I've tried autoglym and saddle soap, both have given it lovely surface soft leather but i am really struggling to get into the grain, any tips would be great!

Re: My CLK

i paid a lot less than i should have done. the only low point was 109k but as my Mums got the same engine in her car and I've heard from people that have done at least 160k with regular oil changes and had no problems i didnt let it put me off.

Full service history, MB and specialist, heated and electric seats, aircon, full leather (despite being a bit dirty from the kids), 230k, auto box, years MOT 6 months tax - £4300

reason why it was so cheap? guy had it on ebay and had worded it all wrong so no one was coming across it on searches, it was only my dad being special (needs) that meant we came across it. the guy said he was trying to cancel the auction for the last few hours as he knew he wasnt going to get what he wanted but decided to be honest and honour it!

On the leather point, would a steam cleaner damage it?

Tom don't worry about the mileage, I drive the living S~$t out of one of those engines for 140k. This was in South Africa with a lot fewer cameras. The guy who bought it from me drives worse than me and the car now has 220k on the clock and the only thing that ever when wrong on the car was the outside temp display's lcd didn't always work.

Re: My CLK

I've got the 320 version. They are nice.
The temp display LCD is the first thing that goes! The engine should be solid but watch out for electrics - they will get a Merc every time - too clever for their own good.
MAF (Mass Air Filters). ABS Sensors, elec seats. etc and anything to do with power (dont let the battery get drained!).
Mine is all working bar an elec seat issue and the temp display. But lower mileage at 60k (not bad for a 2000 year).

Re: My CLK

huss iv sent you a pm, thanks for the advice.

wales, if you saw the plastic surgeon i play rugby with you would retract that comment (see attatched) though i will be coming to wales at some point to enjoy the roads as even though where joes family and mine lives has one of the highest council tax rates in the country you need a g/rr to drive over the holes, the money seems to be sent else where in the country!

thats good to hear that ones been driven hard for 220k and still going strong, bodes well for me the way im caring for it. just have to keep the electrics going.

and sadly joe no deflector, waiting for a good one to come up on ebay but they arent cheap!

thanks for the nice comments though, and PP im not a red head, im african sunset

Re: My CLK

apologies to your friend, I was just ever so slightly hinting that a clk is not a very manly car but clearly you play manly sports to make up for it. So don't be offended, it was a leg pull. The roads are dreadful here as well and I agree that in some places a 4x4 is almost essential because of both potholes and speed bumps  .

Hi there, I happen to have three wind deflectors. One from a '94 SL600 and the other two from a 2003 SL55. I never used them and found them recently at the back of the garage. The two later ones are still in their plastic wrapping.

Perhaps you could find out if one of them would fit your CLK, hopefully Mercedes have kept to a standard size. Let me know if they are any use to you.

Re: My CLK

The SL600 one is definitely different. I had a SL320 and the thing attached to the pop up anti rollbar. In the CLK you have popup headrests instead.
The CLK ones push down into a slot on each side in the bulk head bits.

solved before i could even read it. thank you for looking for me though, i'll keep the hunt out on ebay. there are some cheap ones but they dont fold up lik the original mercedes parts. does anyone know how to search on ebay.de for them? i managed to find a clk luggage set!!!

wales, no offence was taken, the plastic surgeon in question is definitely not the usual, i think he creates business for himself every saturday afternoon! as for the manly side of things, i try my best, but will admit to starching my collars!

Spider1V

Here is a slightly better photo of the "porker". I bought it for my wife so naturaly it is a 4.5 S and not a turbo :D

When the Cayenne was in the dealers recently having the air suspension fixed AGAIN I was given a turbo as a replacement for a couple of weeks.
Iwould say that the driving experience and acceleration of the Porsche and the ML6.3 are very similar. The real truth is that they are both too heavy for the speeds they can attain and the laws of physics eventualy take over and a brown pants moment occurs.

Where the AMG wins over the turbo is the sound it makes. The Porsche is quite muted whereas the 6.3 really roars, a good deep bellow. I have always prefered naturaly aspirated engines and the AMG 6.3 is pretty special.

As far as off roading goes I have done a fair bit in my own Cayenne (well the wifes) and with the diff locked and in low range it is very capable. My mistake was specing air suspension which is its weak point. It has blown two front air springs and if I ever bought another one I would go for the coil springs, much less to go wrong.

The AMG spends its life in the city so has yet to see any mud. Maybe when it gets a bit older I will give in to temptation, which will probably half its value !

Already plenty of land reform in Scotland.

You can wander anywhere you want, quite often get people looking through the windows and having a picnic on the lawns. Not quite what the Access Code intended but what can you do, shooting people and setting the dogs on them is not really the done thing anymore. :(

This is somewhere else I built in the middle of nowhere out of an old croft house. It is at the end of a 12 mile forestry track at the end of a 16 mile single track road. It has its own electricity supply and water is supplied from a nearby spring. No landline and no phone reception.

It is about as remote as you can get yet still drive there. I usualy take the G because there are a few deep fords to cross and a good bit of the track is over some difficult terrain.

Not many people wander through the garden and look in the windows here. The only problem is my wife does'nt like to go there in case the G breaksdown and we are stuck. Presumably she thinks I am incapable of walking 28miles for help and we would all starve to death !!!

The house above has no reception due to its location but the otherones do.
Even in some fairly remote areas there is reception although strangely you can never get Channel five on the telly.

Re: My CLK

there has been limited land reform in Scotland, though nowhere near enough to redress the damage inflicted during the clearances. What has happened so far is a step in the right direction though tiny by the standards of the task. How did we get to here on this thread :?:

Lovely location...I think the GWOA committee should look into holding an event up there if BB doesn't mind hosting...plus there's always the Cayenne & RR to pull you out if you get stuck

Ah, I was up in the highlands recently (on my hols) and the people we were with were most distressed to have to miss the latest instalment of 'flash forward' on channel 5...and this was through a sky box. I couldn't quite fathom it.

It's a lovely part of the world, this was the third time in 4 years we've been to the same place. I'd love to take the G but didn't fancy the fuel costs from Somerset!

The (more remote) house looks amazing. Did you design/build it yourself? Surprised Mr McCloud didn't get involved.

I have access to around 53,000 acres (I have to add for the benefit of prwales that they are not all mine :) ) so I am sure some type of arrangement could be reached with the GWOA committee.

As far as pulling things out when they are stuck I find this handy wee thing to be very useful. It helps that it is fitted with a 20,000lb hydraulic winch.

Glad you like the house although I can not take credit for the the original concept. I took over the property in a part built stage after the (famous musician) owner had some self induced psychiatric problems and went through some financial problems.

I probably would not have designed something quite as "Walt Disney" and did not in fact complete the adjacent concert hall that he also had planning permission for !!!

I like the fact that no one really knows it is there so not to keen on being on the telly with Mr McCloud, plus I would have to lose some weight and that is really never going to happen.

As you can see in the photo one summer I actualy managed to drive the old SL up to the house, probably not the best idea I ever had.

Re: My CLK

I think because of the monochrome scheme the disney effect is muted. I figured the towers were an homage to the other gaff. It's great.

A concert hall up 12 miles of forest track does seem a little unnecessary, even for a drug addled rocker.

West coast is the worst for the dreaded Midge. A lot of people underestimate the ability of Midges to completely ruin any type of outdoor activity.

My places are not too far west and have the benefit of a hill breeze that keeps the Midges at bay. Acidic soil and water is where the little buggers like to make their home.
