Re: Mercedes Enthusiast magazine celebrates 30 years of the

Right you lot - here we go....

Heg's - We are not allowed to read/watch Charlotte's web, as she dies and Alexandra gets up set (huh you would think a 3 year old would be able to handle death - pah!  )

Rus280 - Yes the Second Picture I would agree are Hills, however not to sure about the sticker on the back of your trailer? Looks like a red Gecko  :D - But the 1st picture looks like where I was but photo shopped, as I am sure you can see my G in the background - though nice try!

Hu55 - I am not even going to bother replying as I know your off. On a serious note I am glad everyone managed to get away from the fire safely - and I hope they catch the bas&^%$s who did this.

Tyreman - I know I can post a lot of dribble - but here is the link of what happened when a Landrover tried it on with a G wagen.
http://www.gwoa.co.uk/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=7205&postda...

And for those who think its a fake spray - please see the following link...

http://www.gwoa.co.uk/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=7241&postda...

(Start from this linked page and go on)

Right as I have now put the worlds to right - I am off for a coffee!

Me thinks that maybe, as one is located in the principality, one should realise that things really do revolve around the home Counties , sadly you may not like it, but t is true.

Re the 'toilet rim' that explains the smell that occasionally wafts across, however it is nice to be able to;

a) see civilisation
b) get connected to most of the major roadways that take us to other exciting places (Dent, the Midlands, Yorkshire, etc)
c) I suppose that as the M4 only goes in two directions and the closest you have would be the roads around Swansea (ah yes the A4067 (Mumbles Rd, that connects to the A4216 then the A4118 - just trips off the tongue....)

I see nothing vulgar what so ever in wanting to have photos taken, maybe the envy pixie got hold of your fingers, while writing? Why not venture out and come down to the photo shoot? See the bright lights of THE CAPITAL, get some souvenirs? - you would be the talk of your village and you could entertain the locals for years to come!?

Flabbergasted from Beaconsfield

Personally I think the reference to a toilet was sort of apt, given the amount of b*****t generated in Westminster it must pong a bit surely??

Shame they have to export it to the “Provinces” though

Road connections? Drove there once. There’s loads of roads that go round in circles and all those flashing lights. What are they all about? some people seemed to stop when the red one was on but it obviously didn’t apply to lots of people. Bikes. I can only assume that they were ridden by urban terrorists, tree hugging, environmentalist loonies. (do us all a favour and keep them within the M25 please) who believe the electricity used to make the lights flash is an invention of Satan and they must therefore be ignored. I do actually think that is a fact as I read it in the Telegraph once (I’m making that up actually I had to get the get the Village reader of words to read it for me)
Mitsu L200’s with the optional to**er pack (extra spot lights, chrome roll over bars and bull guards) also appeared exempt. Oh and I then had some fascist council pursue me for money for months……………ah happy memories.

Vulgar pictures? Of course, but hey who cares (as you will note I’m not that shy in posting those, even if they are photoshopped. The one of the 460 was actually taken in the garage. Oh and I’ve already done Hello

Anyway got to go, you know what it’s like out here in the provinces, I need to nip out and slaughter some innocent wildlife or the kids won’t eat today (got them out in the mud digging up some root vegetables at the mo, you‘re only supposed to dig them up in the dark and a full moon). That’s once I’ve cleared a path through the bs that‘s been exported and dumped outside my door

Sorry to hear about your family Hus, you know it would never happen in Bulgaria  :D

Hello again,

Just a quick message to let anyone interested know that the article celebrating 30 years of the G-Wagen will feature in the July 2009 issue of Mercedes Enthusiast, which goes on sale on Friday June 19th.

Well I occasionally get this publication, although its a bit 'samey' every month.
I got this edition just for the G piece, and was pretty unimpressed. When I saw this post, I just had to comment and say I thought it was poor - no disrepect to the 3 or 4 contributors who all had beautiful G's but not a single SWB for a start. I didn't think there was enough there for a 30-year anniversary.

In fact I pulled the July edition off my shelf to remind me - all 4 are 463 models, and I thought the text was anti-sptic (sorry David Harmes).

I think that is a bit harsh. An invite went out to all G Wagen owners inviting them to bring their cars along. 5 people responded, and 4 turned up on the day. Lizzie mentioned she had hoped we would have had a bigger selection but that was in our hands, and not theirs.

I would be interested in finding out if the hit rate went up on the GWOA website though. A number of the parents in my daughters school, did ask if that was actually my G in the publication and a few people (well two) had commented and asked if they could get a G. (I have pointed them to the website for sales section here!)

Sadly no one has asked for my autograph yet :(

if I remember correctly the invite was to those in or near the M25 so as to be convenient for Lizzie Pope's team, given this requirement, it was a racing certainty that she would get more Chelsea tractors than anything else. No offence.

Maybe I was a bit rash, since it seems it was in the hands of the collective owners to put on a show, and it really would have been good to get a real selection in print.
Maybe for the 50th. If I still have my trusty 230GE SWB, it'll be there as a testament to build over tlc !

Actually - its already been in print come to think of it. A lad down the lane borrowed it one day in 2003 when he was being interviewed for a 'Nuts' shoot or something, and wanted to pose in a swanky 4x4 for the photo-shoot! I still have the extract somewhere with the papers :)

Actually the meet was nowhere near their offices. They are based in Kent. I would guess also that most of the G's in the UK are based around the SE of England.

Well done PR, accurate on your geography, however I will disagree with you on the actual implication that the G Wagen is a Chelsea Tractor in this instance and that G Wagen owners in the home counties or any other county have them as such.

As demonstrated by the 4 that turned up and with actually meeting other G owners, most of which DO actually take their 4x4's off road.

Clicky

As you can see in the above definition section 3 G Wagen not listed, section 2 most, if not all of the members on this forum HAVE at one time taken theirs off road and section 1 I don't think anyone here is that insecure about their status to warrant being included in that arena.

Guaranteed you are in location that can afford you the ability to trot of into the hill at any time you like, and for that one does envy you, however the implications that you made are, in the case unjust. As has been pointed out, the invitation was to the GWOA and it was for the GWOA to field a number of different G's - the problem was timing and (as in your case) distance.

I am sure of there is a call for a photo shoot near you, we would see you there?

Re: Mercedes Enthusiast magazine celebrates 30 years of the

If recent memory serves me well, I believe we had a good selection of vehicles at our last 2 meetings in Castlecoole and in a Wicklow forest which was hands on thanks to the Leinster4x4 club. (Irish members)

A wide variety of G Wagens turned up and explored the off road environment with ease.

There is no reason the mag wouldn't do another feature on the club and a selection of its members vehicles in forthcoming issues. Why not ask, as it can't but be good for the club overall.

gosh isn't this jolly good fun, what, what. But to get back to what I think I said much much earlier, why are we helping this magazine, they don't help us and have only a peripheral interest in g-wagens. I feel about Mercedes the same way as most Land Rover owners do about British Leyland; so aren't we better off pushing our way into more general 4x4 magazines and giving Mercedes Enthusiast the "bums rush". Wow thats shallow. The magazine is a commercial interest so why would they spend week after week talking about about the G? It doesnt appeal to the masses especially here in the UK. If it did then the Main dealer network would sell it. The magazine has to think about what is going to sell the mags, and for that G gets the occasional spot.

Why are we helping the mag? If you remember we didnt go begging to them saying do an article on the G. They came to us asking our help. That why those who could helped out. I dont recall a 4x4 magazine coming to us.

Im amazed at some of the negative garbage flying around here. Sad really especially when you consider that this is an open forum.

I haven't been around here much lately, as I've been G-less for the best part of a year, although I dip in from time to time, and keep up my subscription which is my way of saying thanks to the club for the help I've had here when needed.

The way I've seen this thread disintegrate into a slanging match is very very sad. A national magazine came to us the club (not a "specialist dealer" or the likes) and asked for our help. We look like a buch of bl**dy infighting fools. I haven't seen the article, but I'm not surprised it's being criticised.......we hardly gave them much to go on, did we?

I think you need to read it again, thoroughly, ME is a small specialist publication highly geared to advertising and promoting the more esoteric and high performance machine, my argument is that we go for the mainstream 4x4 market others are Mercedes enthusiasts, its 2 differing viewpoints which can get a little animated at times, but your comments hardly add anything to the debate...... I have read it.
Thoroughly.
I am perfectly aware of what ME is, I subscribed for the first 3 years or so.
I think you need to remember that ME came to us, not us to them, if what I read (thoroughly) is correct.
You seem to be saying that exposure of the G, and by extension GWOA, in ME is of no benefit.
So presumably, if one person who read the article then goes out and buys a G and joins up, should we shun him (especially if he's from the home counties???) ?

My view that such exposure would be better in a more general 4x4 setting, and that I'd rather have a convert from a Defender or a Shogun than a SL or a CLS. Do I need to explain why?

I'm not arguing that the club needs better exposure. Any publicity is good publicity.

Happy New Year

All talk and no action. So have you been in touch with any 4x4 magazines yet? Any biters?
