Mercedes Enthusiast magazine celebrates 30 years of the G
Calling G-Wagen owners!
Later this year, Mercedes Enthusiast magazine is running a feature celebrating the 30th birthday of the G-Wagen and we are looking for owners to get involved. Ideally we will get three or four G-Wagens together for a photoshoot and get some feedback from their owners.
We are looking to do this on a weekday, probably sometime in March or April, somewhere in the south of England. As you see, our plans are pretty fluid right now so we can be flexible!
If you are interested in getting involved, please send me a PM. I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you to the website guys for letting me post this.
Lizzie Pope,
Editor, Mercedes Enthusiast
Interested a few of us around the south, are you for real? if so more details please
If I am around - count me in please
Spider1V
Welcome to the forums.
Yup lots of Gs around the south - and a good variety too.
Don't worry guys, I can attest this is real as it was cleared through the committee first.
the South of England who on earth would want to go there! Inside or outside the toilet rim? (M25) Sorry to be so rude but the world does not revolve around the Home Counties.

Did anyone say it did?
Those of us who live in the south are more than happy to travel to other parts of the country for G meetings, appreciate what we see and the people we meet without making acid comments that you are so fond of making
I am so sorry I just can't help it, I thought it was quite funny. Helen, you can be "disgusted of Tunbridge Wells" for the duration. But my point is this the Merc Magazine is like all the media, Londoncentric and believe it or not, us peasants in the "provinces" don't like it. What surpsise me even more is that anyone would be so keen to be in a photocall, its a bit too "Hello" magazine for me. Each to his own I suppose
Now we've stopped laughing at me being 'disgusted of Tunbridge Wells' (and boy have we laughed  ) it is each to his own, some people have beautiful G-Wagens that they would want to show to other Merc enthusiasts (not mine I hasten to add). And are you really saying that if a photo oppotunity came up in West Glamorgan especially for the 'peasants' you would not be a bit tempted
I would have to say no, all a bit vulgar. But as you say Helen each to his own I am sure there are plenty of extroverts out there who would jump at the opportunity. The real shame here is that its even being considered I only started using this forum when I gave up on the G-Wizz magazine which was in my opinion in its heyday at least as good if not better than the Merc Enthusiast.
Well i'd rather my G was in the G Wizz any day - Oh I'd nearly forgotten it has been  My daughter in my G were on the front cover once. And I believe that Ian and Mark are working hard to bring us an excellent magazine sometime soon. :D

But you are in the g wagen club are you not, and g wizz is put together and edited in london, is that a problem? if so put your name forward to become editor !, the AGM was in wales this year ! But then I guess as it was not in your part of wales then it's was of no interest ! But apart from anything else we are in this club as enthusiasts aren't we ? So to get an article in a magazine with a wide coverage is good advertising for both the club and the G . So get off your soap box

Yes we are Helen, 24 pages and it's finished all bar some minor text content, but wether it's up to his "lordships" standards time will tell ! Out in march by the way
Well done all concerned on the G wizz front, personally I can't wait to see it!
I understand there maybe mention of our little get together up at the back of the Laundry block at Castlecoole in Enniskillen.
Speaking of the AGM in Wales how many G wagens did turn up in the end? Were many Local to the area?
Maybe next years AGM should be in Ireland? I'm sure we could find a suitable venue!
Wouldn't like to do that photoshoot though as I would have to wash the fleet and at present that might take a wee while. Although I know the side won't be let down by those in attendence eventually.
Regards,
Mike
Mike, yes the Ireland event is in it, as well as many others, mark and I are quite proud of this one, we already have new ideas on the next one, now that I have convinced him to buy a mac computor and some software it will make life so much easier for us. At a guess there were around d 12 g's at the agm!.
For future g wizz there will be other stuff other than g wagens, showing accesories, maintenance, looking at various camping trailers, off road caravans and general stuff like that compliment your g, also some articles on people trucks, hopefully Mick the diggers gaggle !

Me thinks that maybe, as one is located in the principality, one should realise that things really do revolve around the home Counties , sadly you may not like it, but t is true.
Re the 'toilet rim' that explains the smell that occasionally wafts across, however it is nice to be able to;
a) see civilisation
b) get connected to most of the major roadways that take us to other exciting places (Dent, the Midlands, Yorkshire, etc)
c) I suppose that as the M4 only goes in two directions and the closest you have would be the roads around Swansea (ah yes the A4067 (Mumbles Rd, that connects to the A4216 then the A4118 - just trips off the tongue....)
I see nothing vulgar what so ever in wanting to have photos taken, maybe the envy pixie got hold of your fingers, while writing? Why not venture out and come down to the photo shoot? See the bright lights of THE CAPITAL, get some souvenirs? - you would be the talk of your village and you could entertain the locals for years to come!?
Flabbergasted from Beaconsfield
Ian
I think there is supposed to be a "h" in whether
Londoncentric :?:
Sigh, yes
But life is tough
The Londoners need some consolation for living there
Me
I am happy in the sticks
Ps
My father used to complain that if it rained in the South east it was like Noah's Flood
whereas if the rest of the UK was washed away
Hey what odds.
And if the photographer wants to come to NI I will get my "G"'s out
UNWASHED of course
Sounds good Ian looking forward to seeing it :D

the point I was making was that the forum has replaced the g-wizz magazine as the primary focus of the association, as for being on a soap box is that not what the forum is for, a bit of stirring gets the debate flowing. For the record I visited London in 1976, 1977 and twice in the late 1980's. I just don't like the place, too big, too many people, everyone talking like extras in Eastenders.

1976 - the heat wave
1977 - Silver Jubilee?
1980 - Congratulate the Tory party for winning the elections?
Ahh yes - Estuary English, the bain of the south east - well it has now change - most of the teenagers are talking like Gangster Rappers.
Come on down - It has changed quite a lots since the 80's! More Police, More Cameras and loads more shops. In fact London hosts the biggest Eisteddfod (apologies if spelling is incorrect) now....
Spider1V - Went to Wales once - it was closed

The debate for what, that lizzie wants to do an article on g wagens, and you don't like the idea it's in London. Hardly a debate!. This is an invitation from a magazine! Maybe it's because you resent London making decision for Wales, I think your comments run deeper than what this thread is really about. If it's peoples accents you dissaprove of then your better off where you are, talking gobbledy gouk aka welsh !
hardly a debate no? Well forum topics have a tendency to wander and I think that I made a fair point about the G-WIZZ magazine so should we be helping a rival? The fact its to be in the Home Counties gives credence to the image that the g-wagen now has of gangsta rap and of being the Chelsea tractors of choice for footballers etc. There aren't any hills in the South East are there?
Does it have to be a rival - don't think so as the G-Wizz is only for members I believe, so we are not looking to dramatically increase readers, so it makes sense to work together, after all it is Mercedes enthusiasts not Landrover
Glad to hear that the next G Wizz will be with us in March - make it the 1st guys then it can be my birthday treat.
'Disgusted from Tunbridge Wells' who lives on a Hill :D
the South of England who on earth would want to go there! Inside or outside the toilet rim? (M25) Sorry to be so rude but the world does not revolve around the Home Counties.
This was your initial point. So you live in the hills and that makes you a viable g owner! Some of these Chelsea tractors ventured out on some of our off roading days this and last year, supporting our efforts. The forum is the focal point, but if you have ever been to an agm then you would have noticed the lack of hands shown when the editorship was offered to some one else! So it's left to the same old group of people, who some say are the clicky group, to carry on and please some of the people all of the time. How can this be in competition to the enthusiasts mag, different league.unfortunately we are not powerful enough to influence the type of people who buy g wagens, or begin to understand what kind of person bought reliant robins, but hey each to there own!

Is there one X or two x in bolloxs
Sorry, Mrs Magazine, you don't have enough space for a photoshoot of Irish G wagens, Too many active over 'ere.
Though wish you well in your endevours and don't forget to tell the rest of us when its published.
Regards,
Mike
PS As for the England /Wales debate. In all my time involved in this club over here I never heard any nasty comments or otherwise passed over the North/South issue, while attending or contemplating attending a G wagen event. Live and Let Live!

I don't know if it is just me, but people seem to be particularly sensitive as of late. I do hope that people will take Tyreman's advice and live and let live. After all, does it really matter and aren't there more important things to worry about...
Personally I think it's just great that the G is getting recognition in Mercedes Enthusiast and I think we should all do what we can to support Lizzie. After all I think the photo shoot is not about vanity but rather about highlighting the virtues of the G to those who are not familiar with what is still a rare sight on these shores. Especially considering it is one of the longest running models in the MB range.
After all if we ever have any hope of MB producing further RHD Gs then we need to muster all the support we can get.

Gangsta? In Beaconsfield?
Yo not careful, man, I is gonna get some of the 'home boys' to come round to yo crib, yo carring on 'dissing the Home counties! We take R G's, man and once we been across the Chiltern Hills, Sawf Downs, Malverns we come and teach you some respec!

Listen North London boy - we here in the counties don't call it the 'London Bowl' for nothing!
and as for the Kent Countryside (I THINK I have the spelling correct) and the Garden of England , there is always a dung heap in a garden.......... :P
Spider1V - Gangsta in The hood of Beaconsfield
So you guys live in or around the toilet bowl and I'm next door to the dung heap . Dung heaps are snug and warm (Quote from Wilbur the pig - Charlottes Web) so I know where i'd rather be during this chilly time of year :P

very articulately put, however Welsh is the native language of this island and has a clear structure whereas English is a curious amalgam of several non native tongues and often lacks predictable structure and coherence.
I speak English well enough, just can't spell very well , big deal! Try dealing internationally in welsh, see how you get on.

Still one of the most common languages spoken around the world! Not bad for such a small island of non native toungues.

prwales dont get me wrong mate please,but.......positive inputs please .
as for you spider, who are you trying to kid with that edited pic of your G at tescos car park.......... :? you think i was born yesterday geeza :P
So the Tesco trolley rack in the background has really been photoshoped into a little undulation to imply a mound/hill for the visitors.
I understand you can now get spray on dirt in a can for the realistic offroad look!
Huss your still with us, thought you were gone off buying Boots supplies of suncream for your return to the homeland.
Spyder, what happened your pride and joy (and I don't mean the wife and kids)?
Regards,
Mike
PS Huss you should do some pics of yours before you go as its immaculate normally and would usually show the rest of us up.
Yes, this is definitely for real. :)
Please PM me with your name, location, availability and what Gs you have. I'll leave it a short while longer to give everyone a chance and then will send an e-mail and try and arrange something.
Thanks for the swift replies!
