Salisbury Plain Sunday 28 Dec
may i just show up but not doing the off-road bit??
may i just show up but not doing the off-road bit??
It's open to anyone so you would be more than welcome to come but you will be sitting by yourself once everyone sets off!
Better to see if someone will give you a lift if you are too worried about taking your G off-road.
But as was mentioned it appears to be just dirt roads... probably smoother than most roads in London then.
lphong, just turn up my friend!
the adrenalin will kick in........and you will be off
seriously, watch the clips i posted , its not extreme at all.
are you coming maxwell
would be nice to see uncle bill moss too :P [cliff, have a word mate..]
are you coming maxwell
I would love to but unfortunately won't be around.
Huss " the plain " is mainly tracks and trails  .
hopefully non damaging , bit mudy , sounds fine for your AMG bring it along :D .
But saying that this happened last time I was there so accidents do happen .
Cliff
Are you sure it did not see a parked G wagen and decided not to have a go? :P
Spider1V - Still waiting for the insurers to come back......
spider, i have a plan
speak to caversham and ask for the G36 BRABUS for that weekend :P
tell him to put his ads all over it and you will do the honours of promoting his company :D
mate, is that a plan or what...... 8)

Now THAT is a PLAN!
Spider1V
Why stop at the G36? There is the G500 Brabus... at least it has a winch.
Hi there.
There is also a navigation ramble the same day starting at The Bustard Inn at about 9:30. That will use simple map references rather than route instructions and will cover about 60 miles.
I was planning to do that but it will be great to join other G-Wagens 8)
I live in Andover and frequently drive on byways around the plain west of Tidworth and Stonehenge.
For anybody worried about vehicle capabilities on Salisbury Plain, there is no need to be concerned. Many of the tracks have firm undersurface and are clear of any damaging vegetation. If there is deep water or mud, there will usually be a "by-pass" route, but you can always back track and fins a way around if you need to.
Make sure you have a recovery point front and rear (that you can get to! ) and a decent rope, with shackles if needed. Your average £5.99 item from Halfords will probably only be rated at 2 tons not be up to the job.
In the past in a Land Rover and Range Rover, I have done a lot without even needing low ratio!
I look forweard to meeting fellow members :D
nice one splatt!!
this is going to be very memorable for me, being my second and last meet with some great blokes..
Well said Splatt :D
Cliff

btw, you run stt's if i'm not mistaken?

Yeah I do mine are man size 315/75r16 and not those small ones for mounting kerbs in tesco's..
and I do have a small set for shopping on my 18" rims....lol
They are great all round tyres and done about 50,000 mile between the 2 sets without punctures or any bad ballancing problems..
ok, i will be there!
Just done that route in the 350, easy drive didnt use a diff lock once or low ratio. series of lanes linked by roads, navigationaly challenging in a couple of places, German town is now Afghanistan/ Iraqy town too, get your arse chased if you go to close, plenty of bomb holes to play splish splosh, good pub in Larkhill at the halfway, I know a couple of good places off the route used for advanced driver training.
Did the Bustard Inn drive last year with AWD, more orienteering than challenging driving.
On the 27th there is the annual AWDC drive round at Broxhead Common Hampshire, this a mostly sand but challenging tank traing area,
The realy serious will do both :D
piggy, what you got against tescos!!!!!
please send pics of your man tires. do they rub at all?
whats the size on the 18's? mine are 305 60 18. will they rub once i lift the body 2" and fit the orc 2" lift coils?
what are you coming in? the roller.... :P would love to see a g400 in the flesh.
uncle bill, does this mean you are leading the heard
I would love to be there, my Frau likes her annual pilgramage to Schwarzwald tho. If I can convince her to wait for new year then I will tag along at the back.
no way, you lead !
Any Photos Bill , Thay may be usefull on the ground ?
Cliff
Got a copy of the Total Off Road magazine at the weekend.
I use Memory Map for green-laning etc off-road and will plot the route into that this evening. If I can figure out how to get the data file out, I will post it so others can use it too. It might be a day or so till I'm finished, but certainly by the weekend.
Nice one Splatt , It will be usefull :D
Cliff
CHEERS SPLATT!
im ready
so am i.....
I have the basic route plotted into Memory Map. Tuesday night I will check it, add waypoint numbers, and put it here as an attachment. If I can get the data into other formats I will do that.
Does anybody know how many are we going to get on the day?
Attached is the route file for the Salisbury Plain drive planned for 28 December.
It is a Memory Map route file (with mmo extension) and has been copied from one PC to another, imported into the software and worked OK (but no warranty etc etc)
I have added interim points where it helped to make things clearer, and put in some comments to assist, but they are numbered 1-93 like the Total Off Road details.
If someone else can let me know if it is any help, that would be good. It can be saved into csv or gpx file if that would help others.
GOOD NEWS for wary drivers. I have driven all of the tracks several times in a Range Rover and nobody should have any problems, apart from a couple of places that can get wet and muddy after heavy rain. As I have said before though, there are ways around and if anybody does get stuck, others will be there to pull you out.
Good effort splatt, thanks for the info
Call me a drong if you want but wheres the attacement ?
Cliff
Cliff
 Sorry - It seems that if anybody is a drong (whatever that is) it's me. I thought that I had clicked all the right buttons to attach the file, but obviously missed one, and then shut down my PC.
I will get it right this evening.
no problem mate , just glad its not just me :D
Cliff
Cliff.... is that your G wagen recovery ring? LOL
I'm also sad enough to have put it on Memery map and also not clever enough to put it on here.... or can't be bothered...LOL
Memory Map route file.
I think the problem yesterday was that the forum would not accept a file with mmo extension, so I have zipped it - I hope it works.
Unzip it and save to a relevant directory. When I emailed it to myself and double-clicked to open the file, it launched Memory Map and displayed the route straight away.
Thank god for that its the same route as mine...LOL
any pub crawlers have a postcode for the crown pub in everleigh?
cheers.
SN8 3EY
It says that its called the Flame Lily Hotel now..
Sod Cinderella!!!!!!!!!! see you there :D
:D good stuff
cheers richard !
dont forget your rod shaun......
i have lost count, how many G's so far cliff?
7 or 8..
i was waiting for that hint.......
i think the plaines are just an excuse to eat dolmas :)
unfortunately no fresh vine leaves  but lets see whats cooking.
At this rate there will be more on this event than at the AGM..lol
re numbers
I am a definite 1 in Splatt.
What about start time?
The initial forum post suggested mid-morning - the route is about 45 miles, including about 10 on tarmac between tracks, and it will take about 4 hours without any stops, so I suggest not later than 10:30 to leave the start point at Everleigh.
Remember to bring cameras - there will be lots of great photo opporunities
i am no 2.
will be there before half ten for sure.
sounds good to me mark.
i think ivy will give you the runs mate
Not long now :D , Dont forget your packed lunch .
Cliff
I will be lurking. Huss try hash leaves......
Not long now :D , Dont forget your packed lunch .
Cliff

Polished the G wagen up just for Huss..
What channel on the CB?
Good idea Hus, we could do with an up to date head count.
After all,, you need to know how many Dolmades you need to bring along.
I'm looking forward to them just as much as the laning.
