Right, this question is entirely random... do you have any other quality Germanic products apart from your beloved G?

For example, Leica Camera, Siemens Laptop, Mauser rifle, H&K pistol, or Uhlmann if you do fencing (the sport, not the agricultural barrier)...e.t.c

Re: Other Germanic products

strange question, which deserves an eccentric answer. I think of the "G" as an Austrian product and hence "Celtic" in the correct use of the term rather than German.

Re: Other Germanic products

I have a hand finished Anshwutz.

Also have a joint venture camera between Leica and Panasonic. I suppose you could say it is what a Puch is to a G only for a digi cam.

Are Celts and Austrians from the same roots?

Re: Other Germanic products

yes, the term Celtic was adopted in these Islands in the 18th Century after England expanded to absorb Scotland and Ireland; being used as a term to denote difference. The Irish, Scots and Welsh, Celtic connections are flights of fancy.

Sorry, going to have to expand the German to european / USA - every G owner should have one of these :D as an accessory. I am NOT usually a fan but these ones are so beautiful...........................................

Re: Other Germanic products

Well I got a Prussian (the best kind of German) wife
and I had a Mauser bayonet, lost somewhere on Sailsbury plain.
Zeiss ( East German) binos
Austrian ( Solarbayer) logwood central heating boiler
And I used to own an Anshootz
I miss her, still shooting away in my old club apparently
Sigh
Ps
We still got loads of German pots and China ( and a large marble coffeetable)
All brought back in a German ( Polo)car
PPS
I kinda fancy myself in lederhosen
Any opinions?

Re: Other Germanic products

I miss my Antshoes too. It's not in the country as I don't have a license to get it over here. But thinking about doing it. Though mine is actually "tuned" so it is to Anschütz what AMG is to Merc.

My dad had some East German Zeiss binoculars which unfortunately were stolen. Irreplaceable. The West German ones do not compare.

Yes lots of german pots, pans, cutlery, knives..... furniture (German made, American designed).

Re: Other Germanic products

Love Airstreams - had no idea they were in Europe now. The Tabs were a surprise - that explains why I've seen one around here - they are very small on the outside, maybe like a Tardis on the inside. Cute, but aren't they a bit curvy for a G? Anything more "boxy but good" out there?

Note for Helen - yet another G woman to add to your list - don't contribute often as can't remember awful jokes like Spider and all......

Add Porsche to the germaniacs list, so that would cover VW Audi Skoda et al now would it?

Just to keep the Germanic thread going - the love rat drove a left hand drive VW golf - I probably should have guessed he was going to leave.........

Well it was a model 98 Magnum, special commission, cost my Grandad a fortune, got it as a gift to go hunting with - about 10 months later a certain Michael Ryan, took a walk down the street in the Village I was living in at the time (Hungerford) and all large caliber rifles were then handed in - although I sold it to an American.

My SIG's (Sigh) were won for being the top salesman in the Swiss company I was working for at the time. Sadly they had to go when the Prat at Dunblane decided to shoot 13 school children and a teacher, then took the cowards way out and shot himself.

GLOCK - made in Austria - Often go out with the Far East Sales Manager when I am in Singapore - get to soot a load of those! - Nice with the 50 Round extended mags on full auto!

Other German Equipment -

Miele Washer tumble dryer
Neff Cooker and hob
Braun Shaver
Braun (Porsche designed) world Radio
SMEG Fridge Freezer

And Trudi (German Girlfriend No3 ) left owing me some money as well -

Only got a deactivated MG42 and a deactivated 98k... and a deactivated TT-33, but that was Soviet......

Fired loads different ones but never owned a single firearm... the coolest one was the Colt 1860 Army. A friend's ancestor fought for the Union Army during the American civil war...

so spider... you must be quite a shooter then! I got the pistol expert badge from the US army a few years ago... 88 out of 90 rounds with a M9!!! That was probably the proudest moment of my entire life so far!

Re: Other Germanic products

re Russ280's request for clarification, Celts originate from Austria, Switzerland and Southern Germany and were in their heyday at the time Rome was coming to the fore. Their artwork spread far and wide reaching these shores and Ireland's and artefact's found could have been trade goods or knock-offs, the Celts never came to the British Isles and the whole Celtic industry is a fraud. But the Austrians can genuinely claim to be descended fron ancient Celts.

re Airstreams

anyone know what these cost, the larger T@b the xl can run to over 60,000 euros and are not that big inside. The Airstreams are much heavier with the 4 berth coming in at 2100kg pretty much on the limit for a lwb "g".

The airstreams new are about £45000, there is a company that imports them from the US and restores them - i had my heart lost to one that was £38000 full restored in a 1950's style. bit out of my price range, sadly. Also saw a fab Airstream motorhome when driving to Cornwall in the summer - Perfect :P

Re: Other Germanic products

To jump back to Anschutz rifles
Mine was a model 1407
shot way beyond my capabilities, for target shooting
( and boy did I get an education about the humble .22 round vis-a-vis the wind, this when shooting 100m outdoors at Bisley)
ie even the medal winning shots were all over the place
but
still light enough to carry through the fields bunny hunting
Fond and funny memories of travelling between Ni and the UK with rifles , (incl 7.62mm Nato ) , by air, during the troubles.
Oh to be young & (almost)carefree again

Re: Other Germanic products

Ok, but towing a caravan over 85% of the towing vehicles weight is not recommended by the Caravan Club which would make a 2100kg Airstream marginal. The T@b's are lighter though the smallest one only 800kg

Caravan club can go f--- themselves
bunch of useless wusses
coming from a Ni stock farming cattletrailer towing with a car ( ie no landrover) type background.
First engage brain,
then brake reasonably, (and brain being engaged there is no need for so called "emergency" stops)
allow a split second for the overrun brakes to kick in
then brake as heavily as one likes
etc
etc
PS
REME
used to ( well were known to ) tow a 4 tonner with a landrover 88"

Was capt of Shooting for the school team and capt for my old shooting club. One of only 3 cadets to attain a full marksman (20 or so years ago)and crowing glory was 1.5 inch grouping at 1,500 meters. (Oh and a great head shot to a stag at 800M).

And I thinking I was cool and steady out to 100m with my little pea shooter.

Sad really, but a few of us some years ago used to collect election posters after the event with candidates head shots on them and set them out measured along a long field with a hill as a backstop at around 200m and draw cross hairs on them and use them for target practice.
Sometimes we could even get their eyes to twinkle and do some dental work.

See, told you it was sad.

Mike

No - three 8). It took about 15/20 mins to do the three. It was done as a bet, a round of drinks from the other snipers if I won or I stood a round if I lost. 15 big hairy UK soldiers, me a tiny cadet. I can tell you I won the bet, but threw up BIG time after my third pint! :P :P

Best group with 5 was 2.5 inch and 4 inches with 10.
