Very easy,
Buy it, get dealer to put German transport plate on, drive back, swap fog light around, MOT. Send letter to VOSA or DVLA (can't remember) job done.
Try and get German dealer to supply with a Certificate of Conformity, save you getting it from MB UK

I believe there is no need to change speedo on models later then 2001 as there is a digital read out. Either tape up beam on headlights or get UK spec ones, about £120.

Not sure how the road tax will work, should be done on date first registered, but not sure about the 1st year.

I wouldn't think twice about it, in fact I'd prefer to buy there,

Just to clarify something here on the LHD 99 to 2002 model G500's were converted by AMG bored out to 5.5
with NORMAL ARCHES NOT EXTENDED!. And they had 348bhp like the ML55 all the way upto 2003 (Thankyou Jo as he clarified this earlier).

Datacard will point out if this is an AMG or G500. Or another way is check what litre it has from the datacard 5.4, 5.5 etc.

Also earlier 98-2002-G55's had black engine covers! After 2003 they had the Silver Plastic engine covers. Then in 2004 the engine changed over to Kompressor and the plastic covers were non existant and on the Kompressor models they had the Name/date of the person who built them in the AMG factory in a Square form on the top.

I hope this makes it easier! Not just a fan but a loon for G55's.....
