W460 / 280GE petrol auto, Performance figures ?
Your G looks fabulous mate
Like all Classic cars .. even the well built Mercedes G Wagons need attention now and again.....

Going back to why you started this thread, that throttle linkage could easily be behind all your performance / gear change problems. Before you empty your wallet much further, sit a family member with their foot firmly on the throttle (or a broom handle works for me!) and check whether the final operating lever - at the very end of the linkage about 3" long, just behind the distributor - can be pushed any further to the right against its return spring or whether it is against the stop. As suggested previously I bet you are / were getting less than full throttle which would account for the early gear change / trouble with hills etc. The parts in the linkage that break (you've already found the main culprits) are plastic, not expensive, and easily changed yourself - if you don't mind a little grease!

Good news Neil...
We all knew you could do it if you tried...
Fiddle and frustrating, but what a reward when you do it
All the best luck from now on...
