If it has that set up. Don't tell me it's under the headlining or on cable mech in rear

Re: Sunroof switch

Perhaps g wagons are space age in advanced engineering

Stupid of me not to see the obvious

It stays shut as we dont often have a hot summer anymore and our austrian designers saw this before building uk g wagons

Clever people indeed

Re: Sunroof switch

There are no micro switches for the sunroof, nor Windows. As long as you keep the button pressed, the motor will keep trying to close or open, until it stalls. The increase in current is then detected and iits controller cuts out.  On later systems, with one-touch open/close, you need to re-train the controller as to the fully open and fully closed positions after disconnecting and reconnecting the car battery.

Re: Sunroof switch

Hi Arnie

How does the roof know when its in the closed position?/? If i open the roof it goes back smoothly

When i press the switch forwards to shut it goes past shut and to the tilt position

It wont stop at the closed position. I would not mind but i cant reach the sunroof to feel when its shut and have to stand on sill lol

Re: Sunroof switch

Obviously, it should not go beyond closed and continue to open tilt.. There may be however, some limit switches in the motor drive unit. This can be accessed behind the rear left quarter panel. pull off the rear door edging strip and then just slide out the panel.

'...The motor mechanism may have a white knob that can be pulled out to "adjustment position", where the drive cable is disenganged and the drive unit can be aligned by turning the white knob.

Position the roof in the correctly closed position. Then pull the adjustment knob and turn it in one or the other direction until you hear the microswitches clicking. It is correctly aligned, when turning it slightly to one side, one microswitch will activate, and when turning slightly the other way, the other microswitch will activate (you will of course only hear the clicks). Push in the knob and test the operation of the roof. You may have to realign it slightly to have roof closed in correct position.

Apparently most problems can be fixed by cleaning and lubrication.

However, it could be that you have a problem with you control switch?  (same as from W124)

There is a detailed guide here:

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w140-s-class/1610502-diy-w140-sun-roof-resotoration-repair.html

(Interestingly, all the  W126, W124 and W140 and W463 sunroofs use the same mechanism and are the same size, It may b possible even to replace the G's metal panel with a  glass panel from a W140.)

Re: Sunroof switch

You came to the same thoughts as me. It needs some switch to tell t when its in the shut position

You are a mine of info. I will have a better look when i get 5 and post up what was wrong with it
