Hi all,

I have just acquired a G463 300GES and I'm going to do a service at home. Here is my parts list so far:

Fluids from ECP:

  • Gulf 10W/40 semi synthectic meets MB spec 229.1
  • Front and rear diff QX EP 80W/90
  • Center transfer case QX EP 75W/90

From MB Poole:

  • Oil filter £7.05 inc VAT
  • Air filter element £38.89 inc VAT <--- this seems very expensive compared to pattern part from ECP
  • Fuel filter £31.10 inc VAT

Apart from inspection items, Is there anything missing I should attend to? Plugs done 5k ago. I was going to leave the auto trans fluid and filter as I can see it was done 15k miles ago.

Thanks,

Chris

Re: Full service items

The brake fluid should be renewed every two years, preferably in Spring but if the brake fluid tester fails the fluid you have no option but to renew.

Coolant/antifreeze should be renewed every two to five years depending on antifreeze previously used.

The prop. shafts need greasing if you do not know vehicle history and the front hub bearing need grease filling every two years.

Note: the grease nipples on the prop, shaft are conical type requiring a proper fitting; these can be replaced with conventional grease nipples but are of two sizes. The prop. shaft  ends are one size but the prop. shaft slide joint is of a larger size. I cannot remember the size off hand now

Re: Full service items

Brake fluid is def on the list, what is in there is black and I can't see in the history when it was changed - ATE Dot 4 OK?

Coolant/anti freeze done recently, in last 5k miles when it had a new rad.

Greese points - struggling to work out what I need. I was going to buy this gun: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00FA339XW what additional fitments do I need? Anyone got a link?

Thanks

Simply take off one of each nipples and take to parts store and get replacements of these sizes.

Off course you you should not be using the "G" with these nipples out.

Take one off the UJ side and one off the slide joint as samples for measure.

You could buy either one of each meaning removal of each type re-greasing all points or buy three slide joint sizes and three UJ joint size and simply replace them all; once done you need not woory for future greasing - job done.

You will notice the MB nipples have a long tube in them and the replacements will not, don't worry about this.
