If by "proper" you mean petrol? Then no, only diesels

Re: 606 Jersey Super G

I'm curious now.  That a modified 3l diesel is faster than a 2000 5l petrol is believable, I would expect that a standard G350 due to the higher torque and the 7-speed gearbox is already faster.  But where does the sound come from? the Audi LMPs at Le Mans had a modest sound.

Was very lucky to see this before customer collected

best 606 performer - Axel had to cut fuel back 10% as was unsafe - it wanted to do 180's on damp roads

Wonderful sound [music] - thanks to Inf##### Exhausts who know what they are doing and spot on pump timing

But where does the sound come from?

Sound waves/pulses/acoustics from the exhaust, resulting from explosions in each cylinder as the engine is running.

Nowadays, manufacturers have "sound engineering" departments, to get the effect just right.

Some even have audio files stored and play them on the stereo, synchronised with speed, throttle position, gear changes, etc., but that must be like, errrmmmm...blow up doll maybe???

Best example, the proper way, I can quickly think of is this one. Take one S600, standard from factory, it's whisper quiet.

Open up the exhaust and you get this:

(once again, speakers to the max and enjoy!)

Spider is going to get himself a 600 after this wink

None the wiser (I might be wrong, but sound-engineering refers to what you experience inside the car not what comes out of the exhaust);  if the fastest diesel race car (that has won Le Mans several times) does not sound right what kind of an exhaust system produces a stunning sound effect in the G?  I bought a 350 because they do not sell the 500 in RHD, in the 500 you have a smirk on your face,  in the 350 you feel very sensible (as sensible as possible considering the price tag).

The "inside the car" part is part of the NVH guys.

Sound engineering has to do with creating, almost manufacturing of certain sounds from the engine and exhaust. There is no recipe or formula for the best sound - too many things that can influence it. It's a case of trial and error until you get there.

Ok, so to put it rather blatant, for a sportier sound, a good starting point would be what is known as a cat-back exhaust. Which in effect is less restrictive mufflers, or none at all. Cats and turbochargers do a lot of silencing already.

Not sure what else is possible with Bluetec. Non-bluetec for a fact can go all the way with cat and dpf delete, both physical and in the engine controls.

Chip-tuning companies can do the latter. For the physical side, or cat-back, a powerflow franchise could do the necessary.

Cat and DPF (NON-BLUETEC) can be sold second-hand. You'll end up with spare change. They are very sought after due to theft.

Other benefits (NON-BLUETEC) are better fuel consumption, more power and no risk of having the above stolen from your car overnight at a replacement cost of around £2k.

"Cat" above = catalytic converter

The V6 will have a nice soundtrack. You may want to spend time with the exhaust builders to get the sound to your liking. Pipe diameter, mufflers, if any, and their type and position, spacing of pipes, etc, etc can all have a dramatic influence.

Practically a science in its own right, not too dissimilar of tuning an organ.

These are not to my own personal taste, but a possibility of what yours could be like.

Hope the above makes sense. Can't be more specific as I have no experience of Bluetec engines, only non-bluetec cdi ones.

Maybe someone else here has more knowledge on the bluetec side of things?
