Would you buy this car?
I have seen the following advertised - good price but has had an engine swop. What do you recon???
We are pleased to offer this 1988/F example of the superb Mercedes off-roader, a G-wagen diesel finished in Bronze metallic with two-tone grey interior trim.
These 4x4’s are regarded as being as properly-built as a Mercedes saloon of the time, with the quality you expect from the marque.
This one started life as a petrol 2.3 model, but at some point between 2001 and 2004 it has been fitted with a Mercedes indirect-injection diesel engine, as would have been fitted originally had it left the factory as a diesel. I’m afraid I’m not expert enough to know if it’s a 2.5 or 3 litre – suffice to say it pulls well. My mechanic has confirmed my thoughts that the engine swap has been carried out professionally.
MOt''d to January 2006
Odometer reading 14150 – obviously incorrect – could have been zeroed when engine replaced?
Nice spec - fitted with selectable 2 or 4 wheel drive etc, alloy wheels with heavy-duty tyres, power steering, electric front windows, central locking, drivers armrest.
’ve today enjoyed a 20-mile test run in it – great fun – and it starts on the button, doesn’t overheat or jump out of gear etc.
Excellent bodywork for a workhorse!
priced to sell at just £1995
Not for that price.
Ed Pies - I think it's sold - I saw the advert you are referring to on findit .http://www.findit.co.uk/cars/mercedes/classic/1729106.php at £1995
I then saw it sell for £3,502 on eBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=9855&item=4529055296&rd=1a couple of weeks ago :o :o :o .
I think eBay is great, it's just the bidders that are stupid.
I was bidding for a set of mats for a VW Golf a few weeks back and watched it go up to £35 + postage. I went to my local VW garage and bought a genuine set for £22 all in!!!!!
