Looks like a few people are starting to try and sell it more commercially.
Have you seen the posts about fuel systems with black sludge in them ?????

No - on this forum? Do you have a link?
I will dig it out
I read somewhere that Diesel engines were originally designed to run on peanut oil before the advent of petroleum based fuels.
Same post said that if you convert your Merc engine to run on veggie oil, after an initial break in period that would require lots of filter changes (perhaps this is due to the slude you refer to?) the engine would actually run smoother than one running on diesel.
Have a look at the thread "fungus in diesel" also read www.dieselveg.com

Sorry Bill, I don't see what this has to do with Bio Diesel. Are you saying that this is a reason to switch to it?
Have you tried it at all? I'd be really keen to look at getting a conversion done.
so would i :!: anything tyo make the old girl run smoother.
Sorry Max I didnt spell it out. A lot of bio diesel is a mixture of used cooking oil and other solvents like methanol or naptha, I think that the used oils are the biggest contributor to the black sludge that people have experienced clogging there fuel systems,
I have experimented with oils and the best result I had in a Ford Escort van was a corn oil bought at Tesco and poured neat into the tank, the van runs beutifully, but you always get a cooking smell.
If you look at the website, doing it corectly with duty paid etc and buying in bulk savings can be made, but just like LPG the tax man has started to make it less attractive than it was.
In very cold weather the oil fuel needs to be heated and you need always to have a reserve tank of diesel to start.
I've hear that it is best to mix something like 50/50 with rapeseed oil - bought, not filtered unless you have the gear to clean it properly.
1) In your experience is peanut oil best? Does rapeseed work?
2) Should it be mixed with normal diesel or not? I understand that you might need to mix it when cold.
3) Can it just be put in a 300GD no problem?
I just want to try it first without going through all the hassle of getting fuel preheaters installed etc...
I've read so many mixed things on countless forums, I would prefer to hear from someone who has done it to a G....
Thanks
One of my suppliers is a oil and solvent blender, he mixes bulk bio diesel for a number of London Taxi firms, he does it legit and its all tax paid.
His mix is rape seed oil and hydraulic oil 75/25 it works very well and does not smell of cooking, at a 50/50 mix with diesel you will have no problems.
I have experimented my self with neat rape seed oil on a 300 GD it ran no problem but needed the pre heater cycling 2 / 3 times when starting cold.

Where can I buy this biodiesel? I've seen a few people selling it but always well outside of London....
Yes that is a problem, transportation using proper diesel costs a fortune.
What quantity are you prepared to invest in.
Unfortunately not
