I recently had my G serviced along with an MOT. It was running fine no problems so just had a basic service done. Strangely the fuel consumption has gone up since. When I fill up I analy reset the mileometer to keep track of how much fuel it uses. Not very scientific this but before the service I was getting approx 190 miles to a tank (thats mainly town driving) now it's gone down to 170 or thereabouts. Is there any rational reason, would it be worth getting it tuned? Loathed not to touch an engine that is running well!

What was done in the basic service :?: Check under the bonnet for anything silly like the air intake obscured / restricted etc. Was the handbrake adjusted :?: lift each wheel and check they are turning freely. Look for things like that as it only happened after the service.

Hi Rob,
Did they change the airfilter ??

I recently discovered that my airfilter was a bit claggy so I knockedthe dust out .
I think I found about another 30 HP and discovered that 280ge is actually are a bit of a hot-rod !
The fuel consumption improved from eff***ing disgusting to just awful.

Mind you I drove a new ( but loaded) Landcruiser Diesel recently and got 11.2 MPG, Nissan Pathfinder 12.3 MPG Nissan Patrol 10.5 and my 280ge on the same track
13.8 so t'aint that bad, relatively speaking
So I'll be getting a new filter next Tuesday when my $5 each-way on No3 in the
maiden handicap at Eagle Farm comes in
Cheers Jimmy Mac

try a k&n cone filter or similar. It clamps on the end of the filter pipe. Should make a bit of differnence too.

Yurp !!

Yurp Peter

- I had a look into K&N filters and they are the same price as the OE
but peple tell me that they aren't as good as the standard paper in the fine dust
we get here in bananaland.

Hi SB,
On the highway here I get about 240miles out of my
67 litre / 17.7 gal tank until the fuel light comes on.
I usually sit on about 60-65MPH - this translates into 15.5 MPG
I think it's better on Optimax but I haven.t run any figures.
