Hi guys, help needed

Basically I've decided I want a G-Wagon, but now I don't know what 1 to get. I have no clue as to whats good and whats bad, we just saw it and thought it was the best looking machine out there 8)

My dad and I are looking to create a "project" out of it but we're not sure what 1 we should start with, basically we're looking for a reliable 1 thats pretty economical and something we can create into a "cruising" machine ourselves. Obviously aircon, elec windows and all other mod cons would be great but these are something we can add ourselves (not sure about aircon though). Basically we're planning to mod suspension (about as much chance of going off road as my golf), interior and some slight exterior mods whilst keeping the original shape of the car, basically we want to make it as modern but as original as possible. Forgot to mention, power steering is a must cause I doubt I could keep driving it through the slim streets of London without it....

What engines are the best and most reliable, also are they easy to kit out?

And what sort of prices should i be looking at?

Hopefully you guys can help :D

Thanks in Advance

you've left your self a bit wide open there. What do you want to pay, then we can give you some idea. Economy,well that'll be a diesel then, power, forget the diesel then. Power 280 petrol, econmy, forget petrol. :shock:

If you can shrink you request a bit we might be able to give a better answer.

Diesels were non-turbo up until 97 in the UK. 28MPG

Petrols were::-
460 model 4cyl 230 120BHP-18MPG (16-19 Auto man)
460 model 6cyl 280 160BHP -15-17MPG (Auto-Man)
463 model 6cyl 300 177BHP 16-20MPG

All are reliable if treated right. 280 is an old engine and you hear horror stories about being re-built at 90,000 because of engine smoking but thats mostly a myth, its due to valve guide seals which is common problem on both 230 and 280. Treated right all these engine will easily see 300,000 clicks.

Cosmetic Mods consist of wheels,bull bars bigger springs, that about it for after market stuff, the rest is your imagination. A good set of wheel and tyres transform these truck, and the right colour, Avoid red it fades.
