Steve

I am German and a member of the GWOA UK. I have bought stuff from German ebay and the best way of paying for it is either send cash (Euros) per recorded delivery (other party has to sign for it) or use paypal. Sometimes you can also pay using a credit card, depends on the seller. Anything to translate please don't hesitate to contact me.

All the best

Thanks gd300,
I do use paypal quite alot,I,m trying to buy some clear indicators and I think the seller is refering to some sort of bank transfer,
(Versand nach UK kostet 8,60 Euro.
Ich sende ihnen eine internationale Bankverbindung, dann schicken sie das Geld und ich die Blinker.
Viele Grüße).

does this mean anything/seem ok ?

thanks

Hi,

I'll have a go at this. He says that the postage cost to the UK is 8 Euro and 60 cents. He'll send you an International bank transfer detail, you transfer the money to this account and he'll then send you the indicators. He closes by saying many greetings.

Basically he'll probably provide you with an IBAN which is the account identifier for a transfer of funds. You'll go along to your local UK bank and arrange a transfer of n Euro's including postage, the bank will calculate what that is in Sterling and Bob's your mothers brother.

For reference in calculating EUR against Sterling then multiply the Euro amount by 0.70 which is near enough.

Good luck.

P.S. snowing today in Frankfurt, brrrrrrrr.

Well, don't even try it. High street banks charge a flat fee which is typically £ 15 per transfer.

You can order a bank transfer in the EURO zone for as little as 0.3% with a minimum of € 1

Ah, the beauties of living in this island....

The last time I enquired about transferring money, which was only a couple of weeks ago, the bank told me it was £25 to transfer up to £25,000 regardless of whether within Uk or throughout Europe.

Don't know if it is true but I also heard that UK banks will fall into line with the rest of Europe from July this year.

The only difference between a banker and Dick Turpin, is that bankers don't even bother to wear a mask!

I often send cash to Germany and no problems, I do get problems when sending to France.

If sending cash disguise it in a tube and mark it photographs.

If it is too much to risk, you can send it Swift Air from the PO. It is insured but don't offer guaranteed transit times, although it is generally pretty quick.

I have bought over a 1000 items through Ebay from all over the world and it is only when sending cash to France that I get nervous. I don't know whether French posties scan packages or if they can just smell money but they seem to find it every time. Even wrapped in tin foil, they still seem to find it but the tube thing seems to fool most of them.

I would try and convince the seller to accept Paypal. I would be a little worried if he didn't....
