Hello guys,

Yesterday i found that my G has become verry sluggish when i put the pedal all the way down ( kickdown) the G revs up, but there is almost no accelaration...
can this be a turbo failure?

I've you guys have'n idea what it can be i would be very thankfull!
thnx,

Erwin

Re: Turbo failure

Hi if the engine revs up instantly and there is no smoke it is not turbo failure..could be the "kickdown" is not working and not dropping down a gear... try manual selection and check acceleration...

Re: Turbo failure

Hi fixwin,
by manual selection you mean the 1,2,3,4 selection of the autobox?

Re: Turbo failure

Hi Yes drop it from 4 to 3 and accelerate..this will simulate the "kickdown" performance.and should give you overtaking speed. so you need to be at normal cruising speed before you drop it into 3.

Re: Turbo failure

Hi Fixwin,

I've tried to manual shift gears ( pedal to the metal ) from 4 to 3, but it was still the same...
on the motoray it takes a very long time to speed up to a 120 kmh.. i takes for ever... even from 2nd gear to 3rd gear it takes a lot of time..

Maybe you have another idea what it could be?

thanks,

erwin

Re: Turbo failure

Hi
could be fuel starvation caused by partially blocked fuel filters...

Re: Turbo failure

Hi Fixwin,

Today i had a trip for 150 km. at about 80 km the problem occured again. i drove for another 10 km and then i pulled over at a truckstop, switched the vehicle off and started it up again, the problem was now gone.

Is it a possibility that the EGR valve is the problem?

next week i will change al the filters, oil etc.

gr.

Re: Turbo failure

Hi Erwin, had a similar problem on my Turbo diesel at the beginning of the summer. Ended up being the vacuum assist hose that led from the turbo to the fuel pump: basically when the turbo spins up, the vacuum induced by it is used to lift the fuelling valve/throttle in the fuel pump (via the suction in this hose) and thereby feeding the engine with more fuel as the air inside the cylinder increases. It was a lose connection. Mine is a VW LT engine which is of a similar design-era to yours but I don't know if the g engine works on the same principle. Some of the others, who know a lot more than I do can hopefullly add a comment on this. Good luck /ph

Re: Turbo failure

You don’t say which engine but from the responses I’m guessing a 290? If so it sounds like its shutting down in to limp home mode. Do you get a check engine warning light?
Suggest you need to get the fault codes read but in the absence of that Phileas could be pointing you in the right direction. Loose vacuum hoses, split pipes, failed connectors.

Re: Turbo failure

It seems to be limp mode. What the engine we're talking about?

Re: Turbo failure

HI guys,

Thanks for all the ideas!
The motor that i was talking about is the OM606 300TD. The problem was the EGR valve.
The valve was clogged up, hose connecting to te outlet of the motor was also broken. ( very thin metal )
I didn't bother to buy the whole new assembly ( pipes, valve etc ) i took the EGR valve and pipes out and blocked it with a
thin piece of metal. For so far i've not experienced another failure and i think that the engine without the EGR is running much smoother. ( nice clean air! )

I've some of you guys have any questions i will very gla to answer them.

kind regards

EM
