errrrr.....not quite sure
Had my car (280 GE 460) in to the garage to have the top of the engine (above the cylinders) changed as the old one had a crack in it.
When i went to pick it up the mechanic said it was missing a few bits, namely the EGR valve and that the compression was down a bit. Im told that it needs the EGR system replaced before it can be tuned to run right (currently a bit lumpy) but no longer get the pipe that joins the EGR to the injectors/inlet manifold.
Whats the best course of action? the mechanic is telling me the engine needs stripping down and rebuilding for it to run right, but i was told before that the compression was not a problem.
Does any one have any ideas or thoughts? or do you think it is best to just take it to another merc specialist
Thank you for your help
Hello JC29,
I am slightly lost, have the Garage already done any of the work asked for? Why, did they not report the missing EGR valve and connecting pipe to you then?
If the compression is down after they have done the work, in my opinion they have not done the work right or are fitting a defective part.
The engine can be tuned to run right without the EGR valve, but this may be required for MOT regulations on emissions (subject to confirmation).
SOMETHING HERE IS NOT QUITE RIGHT! I would seriously look for another Garage.
I have not come across M110 engine having cracks, where were the cracks on your cylinder head? How did the engine run? Compared to your original fault, how does your engine run now?
Check your PM, I have given you my telephone number, call me tomorrow, from the afternoon (13:00 hrs) onwards.
Cheers
