Morning chaps!

I thought I'd seen a link posted some where abot this?

Is it a difficult job? I'm taking the 463 to Scotland in three weeks so need to decide if a mate and i tackle it or get a local merc specialist to look at it.

Cheers

Nothing too hard, it’s pretty much a case of follow your nose. Seems to be some sort of mystic hype around G Wagen wheel bearings but a bearing is a bearing. Assuming you’ve got a reasonable selection of tools and the parts all ready I would allow 6hrs for the 1st one 3 to 4 for the 2nd. Thats doing all the seals, CV boot and the king pin bearings as well.

Just get a new box of disposable gloves it’s a very messy job. This link is for a 460 but no real difference to a 463.

Easy enough job, but the box, or boxes of gloves is most important job, second one is "breaker bar", a big one. The nuts is VERY tight, and after doing it on 3 G's I think I can say on all G's.

I need to change the cv on my current car, but it is such a messy job that I'm rather waiting for it to break so the AA can pay for it. I say take it to the garage, but get a quote first.

thats not a great plan, ive seen on allot of vehicles cars, vans, jeeps and G's where they were driven with clicky cv's and they nearly always wreck the splines in the hub from the shock load every time they click! I put a transfer box in a mini dumper a few weeks ago because it was driven with the center cv knackered and it eventually destroyed output shaft bearing and with it knackered the gears in the box!

I myself have driven a G in the past with a rumbling front wheel bearing, thinking ill do when i get a chance.... it eventually seized and the inner race ran on the hub making it scrap!

I got a spare 463 cv that I replaced with an unbreakable pair from the US if your still in need.

Regards,

Mike

PS Defo change bearings before they collapse and damage score all the insides of the hub and ball.
Yeah and the box of latex gloves........inspirational!!!!!
