(i)So I met a local ag contractor to discuss some works, he was in a wee van & I was in Der 461 LWB Van, since the field was rough I said "hop in" and off we went on a wee sight seeing/ evaluation trip around the field.
I was driving without really thinking about it when the contractor volunteers " these things are a whole lot less rattly than a L R", mine would be shook to bits / shaking us to bits driving at this speed over this ground.
(ii) later the same week another farmer turns up in his LWB truck Cab LR to view a very similar field for spraying, and I got in with him.
First the seat was uncomfortable to sit in, second it was bloody uncomfortable on my kidneys? as we trundled around, btw this farmer is 80 odd and drives kinda cautious like.
Discuss.

I don't do much off roading, but I love the ride in the 460. Springy and soaks up the bumps. There's a bit of pitch in the SWB. I would imagine the LR is the equivalent of the old mini - ie. very hard suspension.
Having said that, I've always like the Defender and want to try one out, and the new Discos are impressive.

OK having thought that the sun shone out of both a LR County and RR Exhaust, I was bitterly disappointed with both. Before we got the G we test drove a LR LWB County and frankly the ride quality was mediocre on the road. Thinking the be all and end all of the central diff was the bee's knees, I was very disappointed with the whole 'off road' capability.

As for the RR, well again the test drive on the road was exceptional and smooth, the off roading was very good, in fact better and more comfortable than the LR County, but when the 'air sacks' go pop it becomes expensive and, for my liking, the whole dial setting of off roading , while a great idea, was both time consuming and (for Clare  ) confusing.

Not done the Disco - but friends have them and say they are OK.

For us, the G was a perfect fit, easy to use, comfortable both on and off road.
