Since the 320 is still in Germany I am trying to fix all the problems before exporting it.

Apart from the window switch, i still have a little problem. The headlight aim doesn't work, i am not sure what its proper name is. I remember somebody told me that it can be replaced relatively easily... so my question is, can one does it him/herself? and what is the necessary part called?

Thanks!

Quite the opposite. The system is sealed from one end to the other. It is fluid filled and once the fluid has leaked it doesn't work anymore. Or at least the early 463s were like that maybe the newer ones vary.
Not a legal requirement in UK anyway only in Deuchland

Re: Light height control

Virtually none of them work. It is as Roly mentioned a sealed hydraulic system and difficult to replace. A friend did replace it on his and it broke again shortly after. He said it was so much hassle to do he couldn't be bothered to do it a second time.

But having said that.... if you absolutely need it then somewhere on the web there are instructions on how to retrofit an electrical one.... it uses off the shelf parts from another vehicle.

Here is the link to the retrofit of an electrical system from VW...might need a password from Klaus, but he is very helpful, and if he's in DE he might be able to offer a helping hand too...

Re: Light height control

Thanks Max and M2. Yes, In order to get the export plate I have to have it done because of the TÜV, which have run out a few days ago.

This really annoys me whereas nobody even care about it in the UK, but it still has to be functional :S I have seen the link but I seriously don't think I would be able to do it myself. I basically have no idea about how to take the tube thing out and put it back in again.

Hopefully this irritation issue wouldn't cost too much money...

It will cost quite a bit to get done as quite time consuming. You need to dismantle the dash for starters...

Most cars don't have it.... are you sure you need it?

Re: Light height control

The thing is that I know for sure I don't need it for daily use, but I need that for the TÜV, which is necessary for the red export plates. I am thinking if I could export it with the yellow 5 days plate since I still have a German residency...

Re: Light height control

what i mean is that most cars don't have headlight angle adjustments and still get TUV approval. so as long as the headlights are at the right level will it not pass the test?

Re: Light height control

Nope, if it has the angle adjustments then it has to work...

That's what Klaus says as well...

Why all the fuss? It is checked by the HU part of the TÜV to make sure it is funtional. If it was too much 'something' then they wouldn't give the certificate...
