Wonder if any one has experienced or may know about a problem I am having with the Transfer Box, the gear change stick vibrates a low speed, and also feel the vibration through the seats, but above 30mph/50kph the vibrations stops, and the stick is normal.

Also hearing a rotating/wirling type noise like there is something flaping about on the drive shaft but nothing seen on inspection.

When selecting low ratio gear there is a very mechanical gridding noise too.

Worried I may need a new transfer box, and just had the trammision rebuilt so a little poorer as a result and think transfer boxes more expensive.

Thanks in advance

Andrew

Re: Transfer Box vibration at low speed

Hi as you have recently had the transmission rebuilt perhaps a closer inspection of the short shaft between the Gearbox and Transfer box would be in order...wrongly installed ...loose flanges/bolts....lack of grease (doubtful).....if they dropped the front propshaft then check that also ......

Re: Transfer Box vibration at low speed

My transfer case demonstrated similar symptoms. Mine would make a whirring/whining noise in low ratio. It would also occasionally pop out of low of high ratio into neutral. Eventually it wouldn't hold in either gear and had to be replaced. This was after about 350,000km.

As for the vibrating lever, first check the central prop shaft. It should move fore and aft but there should be no vertical movement at the ends. If there is, it means you need to replace it/the ends.

Thank you for your comments, taking this onboard will investigate and let you know the outcome, although worried a bit as my G has done just over 300,000 kilometers so similar in use.
