Hello GWO,

Just picking up on a thought Maxwell Smart had back in Jan 2010 with regards to a 461 Professional in RHD.

Has anyone had a chat with MB UK about acquiring something more conservative then the G350CDI, G500, G55....

...and if so what sort of figures are we talking?

All the best,

Miker

If you're looking at a G270 as well then I would highly suggest trying to test drive both. I believe they should have a 461 coming into MB UK soonish.

They are two very very different vehicles. Easydeluxe has done a very bit of posting on here comparing his G270 to a w461.

well,
I have driven the "PUR" "greenline" "worker" "professional" or whatever you want to call it for about 1500km now.
It really depends on what you want to do with it! If you want to drive trough the sahara with a recent G it really is superb. The two things the 461 suffers from in comparison with the 463 is a really uncomfortable seat and springs that are so stiff that it is silly.
We put a custom made scheel seat in the 461 and that makes it a lot better.
We are leaving for Iceland in 5 weeks with the 463 and the 461 so we will see which one has got the edge.

But I can tell you this, if you want to buy a latest series 461 for the looks and drive it on the road in europe...you will be dissapointed. It's loud, bone shakingly hard, thirsty, hard to have serviced and way too expensive...and I would buy one in a heartbeat if I had the money

Unlike the 1999 vintage 461 with the 120Hp turbo diesel.
it appears to be the "optimum" incarnation of the practical "G".
simple, plain, comfortable,(well with the Recaro seats it is) easy to work on, with ample performance for normal people (i.e. those without 8 legs)
HOWEVER
iffen we wernt for paying  two weans through University
we might buy two too though.
Sigh

Hi folks....

Thanks for your quick responses...

Taking budget as well as application into consideration... I think I will seek out a LHD 2006 German G270CDI.... Hopefully with low mileage!

Wish me luck... and I'll keep you guys informed as the hunt begins!

Any tips will always be appreciated!

All the best,

Miker!

Hi Miker,

Good luck with your hunt - there are some great pointers in some of the technical sections, try a search first, then post up. I think at some stage we were all in the same boat!

Hi Miker. i sent you a pm with regard to what you'll need to do to import a g from germany. it is pretty straight forward. as with any car, my only advice would be, look at the mobile.de website, get yourself a couple of test drive appointments (preferrably close geographically), take a weekend off and book a cheapo ryanair flight to a strange dinky airport in germany and rent a car. driving is easy in germany (just remember to take your own english-speaking satnav with you!!!) and overnighting is remarkably cheap. then, enjoy the beer and food. hopefully by the end of your weekend you'll have found the one you want. good luck/ph

That 1999 blue LWB RHDcar type 461 on autotrader at £24,500 should surely be worth consideration??
