I have the standart 5 speed on my 280 gel with 4.9 diffs.
I have 33x12.5 15 tyres which the transmission is just about coping with but crawl gear is too fast. If I use a van gearbox instead of a diff change is it feasible?

P3 is the better option, anyway looks like you got your answers there!

Correct. Hopefully will sort the car out before we meet certain GWOA member in the near future. If not we just , use Huss's vehicles if they are not sold yet.

I know this isn't your question either but if ya put a diesel in her with the petrol gearbag- thats if it bolts up- should compensate for big tyres...i'd say. :) any pictures of yer machine? Is it just 4off roading?

I dont think so brother, this gearbox is not good with big tyres petrol or diesel.Only if u r standard it will do the job, just about, follow P3 forum there is so much scientific input for all the WHY's you may ask

Yes the other place (3P) has done a fair bit on this as far as gearing being suitable .. seems to be a cheap way to better ratios but all depends on tyre etc..

As far as fitment...

Well I am in the middle of putting the overdrive 4.695 1st gearbox 711.113 into my G having killed the Getrag. Presume you trying to put the "turtle" box in i.e. 711.110 with the non over drive 5th and 1st of about 6.157 into yours i.e a Wolf ratioed box... bascially the same job.

Dentysmith did a 711.113 for sure already .. and a few others. What do you want to know?

Note I am still trying ... so learning all the time as it is not yet done ... saying that I have stripped both types of boxes now .. and while the iron box weighs about 15 kg more .. it is a far better built box with gearwidths that are 20-30% wider .. and it is used in the factory mini-mog.. good enough endorsement for me! Oh and the first ironbox died on arrival due to rear bearing breaking out the circlip groove in the rear housing.. so it shunted the output flange about 2-3mm on the middle 1st/rev shifter lever being moved and was hard to shift gear.. so I await my second victim!! So check that when you get a box.. suspect it was brutal reverse loading pulled the lip off the circlip groove.

yep Chris has done this conversion he told me it works v well  gonna put 33 10.5 on the wifes g but thats an auto petrol so not a problem at slow speeds just need less revs at the top end
