Have just bought a 280GES. No problem for me but the missus can't reach the gearstick in 1st. She's renamed it the Gorilla wagen. Has anyone fitted a cranked extension, and was it home made or commercially available? Any advice gratefully received.

not really something you can knock up in your garage unless you have a lathe and know how to use it, or are a half decent welder. I'd take to to my local engineering shop and explain what you want and ask if its possible, machining an extension may not be the answer as it would need to be bent backwards in situ. Might be easier to swap for a longer armed wife

There were two versions fitted to old 460s, long and short gearlever. Mine had the long one. I am sure that you could get a long one from a scrapyard, given that this is a W126 part and was fitted to numorous other Mercedes saloons. Just measure the lenght of the one you have now and search for alonger one.

Cheers.
