I think I f****d up!!!!, how to get out of emergency mode?
:(
I have my G 270 for a couple of weekends now...not driving it yet.
Been playing with all the buttons & gizmo's, listening to the radio whilst cleaning it.
Result drained battery.
I wanted to start it but the battery was to empty...I keep trying.
...At this moment all kinds of error messages appeared on the display in the dash.
I stopped trying and hooked a 8 amp battery charger to the trucks battery.
A couple of hours later I started the truck...no problem, no more malfunction messages. (If everything is ok, the car says "no malfunction")
So I'm happy...
Yesterday I want to take her for a first test drive...she doesn't pull and revs to 3000 rpm maximum. When in neutral she also does 3000rpm max.
So I think the truck is in "emergency limp home" or something mode.
How do I undo this???
I hope this vehicle doesn't require a MB dealer with a computer every time you get a flat battery
advice greatly appreciated!!!
G
Switch off leave for a while then start again
My CLK required a reset by turning steering to full lock one way, then full lock the other, then back again. Then ignition off and on again - hey presto - re-set from glitches and false/intermittent errors.
When the battery goes flat, apparently some of the sensors cannot transmit status ot the engine management and hence triggers errors.
by the way g, since we always end up overloading our aux battery with 'stuff' (includes my fridge, CB, radio, camp lights, etc), i've installed an 18W solar panel on the roof that constantly charges both batteries. never had a battery problem since (also once a year I remove the batteries completely and recondition them with the battery charger). The panel, charge controller and wires cost about Euro 300 max all-in. Installing it is simple (I did mine and I'm pretty useless when it comes to wiring usually!) and takes all of about 2 hours at the most. you might want to consider something like this before heading south. ph
There's lots on Limp mode on the Merc Club forum...

Still not sure if my lock-lock will help. Seems like might only be for steering related resets. Intermittent faults should clear on a rest/restart, so most likely you have something entered in the 'stored' area of fault logging, and this will need a diagnostic machine to clear it.
As I've said on some of my forum posts - its not the most helpful of Merc design.
Earse fault code and reset by star diagnostis.
cheers,
of course I already tried waiting and starting again.
Didn't work. Called MB....They said
"If the errors detected are not safety threathening you can try to remove key, wait a while and start again...If there are some errors, the car will save them in it's memory, and you need to go to MB to have it read out, checked and solved"
I hoped there was some insider shortcut secret workaround to this problem, because if this happens in the south of algeria for example i'm proper f****d!
What also puzzles me is that this truck communicates everything from engine oil level to disc pad status...but if the car is in limp home mode, it doesn't give the message? Sounds unlogical!
Hope this gets solved....
