Weird roof...

I have just come across this one on mobile.de... what a weird roof it has! Was it a strange option or aftermarket?

Hi, it is aftermarket. It was done so that this g could be registered as a 'van' and so avoiding the crippling roadtax in holland.
Because everyone was just taking out their backseats and claiming it was a van the authorities stipulated that a box of certain dimensions should fit inside the vehicle, not actually go in though. Hence the raised roof.
