Murphy's law and the curse of the wayward sunroof
just as the weather improves my sunroof gets stuck. Not in the sliding mode but the tilt which will not close properly, I suppose this is the better way to fail. I've tried winding it in manually, anyone know the right way to go about this :?: Or promise indefinite sunshine :wink:

Unsure, on no account force it! Once made that mistake with something else.could never get it to close. May be look at Haynes for 190/124 advice?

Hi the amount of moss glit and crud that has collected in the guides/ rails /channels has now compacted between the moving panel and the structure..only cure is to slide the panel fully open and thoroughly clean all the grot out...you can manually close but not open the panel so some help may be needed to propel it backwards....you will need to cover the seats to avoid stains and if you stand on them to access the work area cover the centre console...when all is clean brush lubricant into the guides/channels hinge points etc and remove excess. exercise both functions but do not overwork the motor.... check the drains are clear...the long drive cable can bind due to age and that means taking the headlining out to service...best check the weather reports for cloudless sky if no cover available as one thing invariably leads to another.....
its the tilt that will not close properly, not the sliding mechanism and it will not allow itself to be wound shut. It will still open electrically with a little assistance but not fully and the piece of headlining that ought to lift with it stays put, in the closed position. I have always kept it clean and lubricated, so I don't really think its that, I will strip the headlining off next opportunity I have time but can't figure it out yet.

Hi the headlining appears detached from the active panel which in turn could be the cause of the active panel not closing correctly..... there are very fine tolerances in order to stop leaks and the inner headlining could be fouling the active panel aperture during the closing function ......
