Advice please
Hello, hope to pick your brains please. I have been offered a 2002 400 cdi with 77,000 miles. The G was registered in Germany and then went out to Greece in 2004 (same owner since 2004), he kept it there and has now imported it in to the UK. There are four service stamps 3 in Greek and one this year from a UK main dealer. It is a lwb in silver with unusual bumpers, they don't look like genuine Merc . He livers on the south coast. Does anyone know this G. I can only take his word for things as i have no way of checking the history in Greece or if he was the only other owner. Any ideas what it is really worth ?

Hi put the vin/chassis number on the forum and somebody get the original build specification for you...is LHD or RHD?? ..4 services in 8 years looks like mileage related only....any invoices matching the stamps in the book for service content???.....does it have a current MOT?

Extra milage must knock off a bit, plus the dubious heritage and dodgy bumpers....maybe £24k??? Difficult to say without seeing it though as condition is also important.
The 400 on pistonheads seems pretty good value compared to a similar 270 on there for £35k.
400's are usualy much cheaper than 270's
because early engines failed a lot and it's toooo damn expensive to tax, insure and run for most....
if you don't mind the very high running cost its epic to drive!!!!

Will get pictures of bumpers. Overall it is in good condition with no signs of rust or obvious damage. Not sure if i am being over concerned but don't want to end up with a lemon.

Did not go for it, too many issues. It is now for sale with BJC car sales on Autotrader. Maybe someone on here knows this G or what type of bumpers are on it. Also why would anyone take out the Mercedes Comand system ?
A few people (especially in the US) change the COMAND out for something more "inclusive" that can play more media options and can connect to even more devices. For example:

Have done the MB Russia search, all comes up fine spec wise. It's a LHD. No other invoices with the service book. Mot'ed in Jan 10 when the G was imported and serviced in UK this year by MB main dealer ( they will not give out any info, data protection ). There are a couple of other niggles... 1 Strange bumpers (never seen on a G or any other Merc)
2 He has taken out the Comand head unit and fitted a retro fit Sat/nav.
