INSURANCE cover needed URGENTLY
Hi guys
i've been teaching my 17 year old to drive in my 1991 G and he has his driving test tomorrow. If he passes i then have the impossible job of getting him insured. Any advise would be appreciated.
I managed to get cover whilst he was a Provisional Driver no problem at £20 per week from Marmalade Insurance. Rgds LEO
Try NFU, they have some good deals if your son is the named driver... otherwise Admiral is not bad either.
I paid 3k for my 300GE SWB's insurance when I had my license for half a year in september 08. However I was the main driver...
By the way... all the best to him!!!
I think the internet will be your best bet. Adrian Flux are supposed to give discount to club members, might be worth a try. Otherwise google 'insuring young drivers' and see what comes up.
The NFU/UFU now do 6 month term ins for younuns, & they get a full years no claims at the end of the 6mths.................always assuming they earned it
They are generally more expensive :( in absolute terms........ though I would however hope/imagine that they deliver a better service with less quibbles in the event of a claim. For this reason i have just gave them a couple of hundred more than a brand name competitor. Plus a very local office staffed by real & very friendly staff.
good luck
agree with marcus. we also use the nfu. would recommend them to anyone
ditto the NFU.
I am sure there is a thread somewhere here on the forum that lists things like elephant, Flux (who in my mind is a rip off) you can try MB insurance? But the best I have come up with for the past two years is the NFU
However, not sure where you live - I think I worked out with Maxwell Smart and Mark - who live in London - that the NFU were not that competitive.
Good hunting and good luck with the test!

might you save money by buying your son a small car rather than insure him on your policy? You also avoid the risk of him having an accident in your g-wagen. Insurance policies for young people are high for very good reason, they do have accidents, my youngest son wrote off his mother's Polo after having passed his test only 3 months earlier. The other issue with the g-wagen is the sheer number of young people that can be squeezed in, particulary with a lwb. :?:

In fact, the sheer number of people and their belongings a LWB G could carry is one of the things that I don't really like about the G. I hate when 'sort of' friends asking me for a lift, it is hard to say no but I seriously don't want to say yes... the best excuse would be 'oh sorry, I am going to see somebody else...'
