raising a 270cdi
can you raise a 270 cdi and put bigger tires on it?
or do the electronix go nuts?
ask ORC :?:
easydelux, i think the best way to raise it without effecting anything is to use spring spacers as sold by karl from p3 and you keep the smooth ride unlike the orc 2" lifted springs
now tell us what you are up to :)
good luck mate !
If you can lift a 55, you can lift a 270. fit longer springs, I will go ORC and extend your brake sensor.
orc supply spring spacers also Huss fitted on mine and marks , just so you know in future
hi shaun and daun! hope you are well. i didnt know orc do them... whats the lift like?
Huss the lift is higher :  brake hoses changed also me very happy. we are all well thanks mate

some great kit, even have a rear disc conversion kit :?:
some great kit, even have a rear disc conversion kit :?:
I think I can probably do without the ORC front mats at 169 euro, for each mat :!: What are they, cashmere.
I will probably also be able to restrain myself from buying their snowplough attachment at the bargain price of five grand.
They do have some good stuff but it all seems a bit overpriced compared with similar items for other large 4x4s.
Standard 270cdi is quite capable, if lift you may afect drive shafts components.
i could not see the spring spacers???
since fitting the orc springs to my 230 ges the vehicles off road capability has transformed from good to brilliant !! together with the 33 kumhos it came with i able to climb and cross terrain that at standard G long or short would have struggled... i accept that the G is very capable off road due mainly to its diff lockers but a 2" lift [either by springs, spring spacers or bodylift] and taller tires,ie 235x85x16's, 32's,33's or ultimately 35's will make the G even better !!!
ofcourse all these mods depend on how serious you use your G off road..
I must admit, G with taller tires looks so powerfull.
How ye lads, cant seem2find spring spacers on orc any chance of a picture or link?
I'm pretty sure that Shaun and mark both have new springs rather than spring spacers... I have a 2" lift from ORC and everything is fine after 80,000 miles..
Hi Easyluxe please read your PM (private mail)
you don't have to do anything!!! its as simple as fitting the springs if you just want lift.
BUT! if you want more flex thats another story!! I fitted 2" longer shocks and then you have to fit longer brake pipes only the front 2 as the rear one was plenty long enough, I don't think mark has even put longer brakes lines on his and he has longer shocks as well..
hi G. I've just finished prepping my G500 for overlanding and drove it from the UK down to Greece last week, so can report a little on pros and cons. I don't know how similar it is to the 270, but I think the geometry is exactly the same and can advise the following. I went the lift 2" with springs and body lift by 2" route as we found on our G300 last year that the standard springs weren't hard enough: the wheels filled the wheelwells once the car was fully loaded and the springs were too compressed to give a decent ride. My 'new' G already had the OME +2" springs fitted, but I wanted to make sure that the articulation is more-or-less the same once kitted out and that it is the reason I went for the 2" body lift as well (as you know, i'm an ex-defender guy and once you're used to articulation its difficult to imagine anything else - so this may be an error on my part and unnecessary but I did it anyway for my piece of mind). The brake lines are extended, the dampers are standard size and didn't need changing (Koni heavy tracks by the way: the car behaves very well - again I bought the car with these on, but can recommend Konis to anyone having only had these on my defender and land cruisers before). No problems with the prop whatsoever by the way. Mine is the standard unit and there is no detriment to how the car drives and no vibrations either. I fitted 32.5" BFG ATs (285/65R18s on your ex-rims) tyres in the end and these are a much much better ride than my 33" MTs (255/85R16) that I had on it by the way. What I do need though is wheel spacers as the wider tyres rub on the steering arm in one direction (I simply ran out of time before heading south to test drive the car long enough as the new tyres only came the day before I left - bummer, wheel spacers are on order though and I will fit them asap). So far, after 2500km of driving (unfortunately mainly motorway, but some rough tracks already in northern Greece) the car behaves much better with the heavier duty springs than the G300 standard ones when loaded. The C of G doesn't feel too high (I also have a roof rack fitted where we store all our camping/outdoor gear/clothes for all five of us): as you know, you tend to be much gentler on the controls when you're heavy anyway so it is really a matter of just bearing in mind what you've got on board and driving the difficult sections more carefully. My only thing is that I will DEFINITELY need an extra (or 2!!!) fuel tank(s)! I will try to fit the largest one possible as the 5l V8 isn't the most economical thing to run, but........on the few steep rough tracks that we did drive, the extra power was great - low rpms all the way and no having to 'boot it' to get up hills: fully loaded no problems! Good luck with your rig and I hope I haven't left anything out/ph
missed out this one: no camber correction kit fitted. steering doesn't feel massively different with the wider tyres (with the 255s, it is a little sharper than before though). however, feel this is because of the tierod lengths: anakreon has modified his and says that ride is massively improved.
sounds like a good start. the fact is, once you're loaded up, your vehicle will sit lower and be more in line with the factory settings in any case. you might only want to have a look at what your brake lines look like under full articulation without full load. others have done without the mod, so it might not be necessary at all for just the 2" spring lift. would be interesting to know though just in case.
phileas, did you fit the OME+2 spring or were they already on there?
I'm after some OME part numbers to get some more spring for mine..
If by OME you mean OEM...I might be able to help
Got the following from various forums over the years...
no when i bought the car it has old man emu springs on it. the guy before me bought them from taubenreuther in germany so he says. ref the orc part number just give daniella a call at orc and she'll help you. i'm afraid i don't know what the ome part number is: in any case, i still feel that the springs the guy before me fitted are a bit too soft for a fully exped prepped g - maybe he didn't ask for the +500kg package
I am up to converting a pristine full option 50k mile LWB 270cdi
into a decadently comfortable but capable overlander.
For that it needs
-orc winchbumper (check)
-warn winch (check)
-autohome columbus tent (check)
-rhino rack roof bars (to do)
-snorkel (to do)
-dual battery system (to do)
-national luna compressor fridge & freezer (check)
-president harry III cb (to do)
-2" suspension lift (to do)
-HD dampers (to do)
-32" BFG AT's (to do)
-additional under chassis mounted diesel tank (to do)
