As very few car parts are designed to be interchangeable I thought the newer MB steering wheels wouldn't fit my 1992 463. But they do! At least the one from a 2005 E-class I got does. It's a bit smaller and thicker and makes you believe you're driving a new car:-) The airbag doesn't work of course, but the switches and horn do(with a few minor alterations). So if you're all out of ideas for utterly useless upgrades, here's one for you!

Really? They work? How did you get the horn to work? And what do you mean by switches... as in, the volume, etc? Was your car/stereo wired for that? VERY INTERESTING!!! WOuld love to know how you did it, and any pics if you have them... thanks!

Oops sluggish reply, sorry. If you want just a working horn all you need to do is remove the contact-ring (dunno the official word) from your old steering wheel and build it into the new one and reconnect the (2) wires. A pretty straightforward swap. If you want the other buttons to work as well you need the receiving end of the contact ring with your new steering wheel. Putting that in your 463 is a bit more fiddly but that's how i got my phone- and volume buttons to work on a my pioneer cdplayer w/ bluetooth. You probably need a similar radio with a wired remote connector.
