underbonnet felt
My one is perished to the degree it is unusable. What to do ? Has anyone tried to solve this problem before?
Regards
Yep , available from mercedes about £60 and if you buy one stick it on after you have degreased the bonnet and remove all the old foam padding otherwise the adhesive wont hold it and it will fall onto the fan blade . Dont use spray glue like evo stick because the heat of the engine bay will cause it to fall off , only use tiger seal or something similar , good luck stevo
Its a balck rubber adhesive that when dries is very strong like mastic available from most car accesory stores or car paint manufacturer stores about £8 in a metal tube so you need a mastic gun and if you use it wear gloves as its a so and so to clean off your hands ! , tiger seal is a brand so shops might seal another make called some thing else .
Contact adhesive from CarBuildersSolutions.co.uk worked fine for me so far. Came in a 1 litre tin for about £10
Messy messy job...get someone to do it for you.
Take bonnet off, turn it upside down, it's not messy then
Very obvious and very good idea....now why didn't I thnk of that....?! :)
60 squids!! :? msl (irish merc importer) wanted 170 euro +vat about a year ago...and that was with a trade discount! :x
alternatively you can go to noisekiller.co.uk or wrightoffroad.co.uk and they will supply you with the raw sheets of reflective noise insulating material that is better than felt as it doesn't tend to get wet. i've used it (very extensively) in a land rover i had and it worked wonders. it might not be a cheaper way to go, and is basically a weekend job, but once done the stuff never comes off and better still you have really good sound insulation. good luck/ph
Go for the noisekiller stuff. I used a fire resistant foam before. I gives a very solid sound to the bonnet, and take a lot of engine noise away. The main reason for me was to be able to jetwash it. The stuff I used looked a bit like neoprene, but heat resistant.
what is tiger seal ?
