Had an advisory on yesterdays MOT that the P/S belt was slipping when on full lock [otherwise all OK :D ].

Actually it slips when just trying to turn at very slow speeds; it squeels and the steering becomes juddery. Can the belt be adjusted easily? Or should I look at other possibilities? There appears to be the correct amount of fluid in the reservoir.

Hi Tom If you look at the way the Pump/reservoir is mounted you see the bolts to undo to tension the belt..if the belt had been slipping for a long time it might be a good idea to change it..no need to buy from MB take it off and get one to pattern from your local autoparts supplier.....

Re: Power steering belt adjustment

Finally got round to it yesterday. Tightening it has sorted the problem but there's definately a leak in the system at the steering box unions. These are an ar$e to get to so I'd rather just keep an eye on the fluid level for the time being and top up as required. Is that going to cause further problems though?

Hi Tom only if you are losing pressure or run out of fluid..is the leak as a result of the steering box removal you did a few months back?

There was no leak immediately after that, I started noticing the belt slipping after the salisbury trip at Christmas. I wonder if the trip caused the pump to work harder than normal and therefore exposed a weakness in the pipework?
