Fluid type for axle lock hydraulic resovoir
Hello, I am restoring a SWB 280E 460...Replacing the rear corners bottom of rear door and cross member plus quite a fdew other of the usual places...The one thing I will need to know at some point is what fluid goes in the hydraulic diff lock reovoir,as the pipe from the base of it to the matal pie perished ...I thought that the Peter Russek manual would have a Lubrication chart that would mention what type is used...Also wether or not you need to bleed the system afterwards, although I think there is still fluid in the metal pipe in the engine bay..Alas not a word about the diff locks atall !...Can anybody advise? as I was going to refill it with ATF fluid .
Kind regards Gary
Morning!
Brake fluid. Just plane brake fluid as you put in brake and clutch system.
God luck with your project.

Hi Use regular DOT 4 + Hydraulic oil and bleed each difflock ram until fluid runs clear ......
Hi there is a bleed nipple on each difflock ram attached to the axles. fill the reservoir and operate the pull - push lever in the centre console until you get clear fluid then at the bottom of the stroke close the nipple....need two people one inside and one on the nipple.use a jam jar to collect the dirty fluid....
Hi "DOT 4 +" is a type of hydraulic oil
Hello fixwin38,
thanks for your reply...I am a bit confused now you say Dot4 brake /clutch fluid + hydraulic fluid ?... where exactly do you bleed the cylinders on the axles?as I couldn`t see any bleed nipples at the actuating cylinders mid-way on the chassis...Do you just crack the pipe joints?
ind regards ary
