anyone know what boost a 617 will take if fitted with a turbo?
what boost do stt and tb conversions run?
also what is considered too high egt for one of these engines?

now then mick mines got a turbo bolted on and Ive never got round to fitting the waste gate I think I tested it when I first fitted it and it was running 16psi ive also turned the fuelling up as well that was four years ago and about 100.000 miles ago the engine was blowing then so figured that when it blows up i have very good engine for her but it wont blow up !!!!!! I will run my new engine at 9 psi and as for egt so long as she dos'nt blow black smoke on steep hills at full throttle that will do me plus egt quoted will be for 617a engines with piston cooling. is this for your trialer? cos if was putting a diesel in mine i'd fit it with a blower for low down grunt :D any best of luck Andy

Its for the black edition so mainly road use.
I bought a 617a exhaust manifold and k26 turbo (lock nut and screw to turn the boost up) from the states, went to look at that 3.1 td trooper I mentioned in another post but it sounded like all troopers...CRAP! the electronic pump on the m51 bmw td puts me off them, so im just going to nail a turbo and and a big intercooler on it for the time being...still after td musso engine and auto box!
not sure if the top of the intake turbine housing will clear the bottom of the non turbo inlet manifold yet...looks tight :?
may get to grips with that ac/dc tig I just bought...or just buy a 617a inlet!
ive got a egt gauge for it and ive put the pyrometer upstream of the turbo so will be having a mess with the pump!!

My TB kit was set at about 5 psi and the STT was maybe 10 psi.

With intercooler I'm sure 14 psi is possible... but 16-20 sound high for a non turbo 617. I will one day go play .. but an EGT if the first thing to get fitted.. then maybe a 617a injection pump with boost capsule so that fuelling can work right.

dont forget my engine is well worn with plenty of blowby past the rings and so there room for everything to expand and not nip up dont go mad with a good engine. i keep intending to fit an intercooler was thinking about relocating the oilcooler right out front re solder the bottom radiater mounts to move it to the right and then get the largest intercooler pos in front of radiater with cooler pipes going down the side of rad, that with a bit of LPG fumigation no need to increase diesel fueling and detination is quiter and smother ( one day :roll: )

Yup ... moving the rad sideways is the tidy way to get short intercooler pipes in.. I was going that way with the Sprinter conversion but reality is for 2-3000 miles PA on a snowy year .. it is not worth the grief. Still intercooling and turning up the boost still appeals.
