steering damper

Hi,

After jetwashing the G when home from latest offroad venture, I noticed that the steering damper has sheered off, funny thing is that I didn't notice any difference at all driving home.
To be honest I don't go much over 65 mph anyway but would have thought there would be some difference?
Shall I just remove it completely, by the way it was a Landrover item :lol:
One less thing to fall off....

what do you guys think.

have attached picture of where I 'think' it might have happened, very steep climb out, which I failed, several times!

mine has the late 463463 coded 'fat' stabiliser fitted richard and mine also came off last year due to over enthusiastic driving....

drove home over 60 miles and never knew it was falling off till a month or so later :oops: i also failed to notice a difference whilst driving the G during that period... :?

I think failing to notice is a very good sign of everything else being in good order :wink:
Some folks aren't so lucky and use their damper to mask other problems :shock:

i think that if mercedes thought g wagens wouldnt need them then they wouldnt have fitted them on , for the sake of £75 put one on it could cause other components to wear out quickly and may save you from having a accident ! , regards stevo

i drove from London UK to Athens Greece (1700miles) without any steering dumper!!!

i put one when i rebuild my G last summer... (i am still fixing things!)

I know more than one that have removed their steering dampers years ago... no problems to report.
