Went to that G-klasse centre again this afternoon, was after a spare wheel cover...

The guy total me to go to the parts department, which is on the completely opposite side of the showroom. When I went through the car park I saw MANY new Gs in stock, basically one could just buy one straight away. One caught my eyes was a dark grey PUR (not for sale tho), I have never seen any photos of a PUR in that kind of grey before...

here is the map...

I noticed a very interesting today... the new 320s have black front and back bumpers but the 500s have colour coded bumpers.

Colour coded bumpers has always been an option on the lower model w463s (G350,G320,G300, G270....) so not all will have black bumpers...

FWIW, it was even an option on G500s when they first came out!

Re: Interesting PUR

hey all,
i happy to admit that am mr maxwells friend and i was sending him these G porn pics today (I appreciate the confidentiality Mr Smart!)...was in frankfurt...the pur was v nice indeed...was a "packet 2" so a few more options...sits nice and high and seats seem sprung in a way that imagine would mean quite comfy off road...seriosuly utilitarian G...white is cool..but imagine black is that much more mean...rear doors are pretty cool too...

the cabrio was a 320 d...2010..seats were very comfy and seem to be upgraded,,,i think i heard they are from the new e class. BIG improvement.

the SL is a "Black Edition" albeit in Diamond White Metallic..all 350k euros worth...was only one with door locked and no possibility to sit in in..not surprisingly!

was a good browsing day indeed ;)

I'd love to see this colour on a real G. The photo's I've seen on the web frequently have a heavy yellow tint, which looks disgusting. The standard colours are black, white and desert sand. I normally hate white as a vehicle colour, but it looks quite smart on the G PUR / Professional. Black is a killer colour. Desert Sand could be ...

The Entdecker G' look great http://www.mercedes-g-entdecker.com/2index.html , but they are painted in Desert Sand matt, not Desert Sand gloss.
The only comparison shot I've come across is of the three G' below; the W461 in the middle is matt.

You can see what I mean about colour reproduction of Desert Sand gloss if you look at the G PUR at http://www.allradonline.at/modellvorstellungen/gelaendewagen/mercedesben...

Interesting... two different grill types in your last photo. Did you get a good look at them?

Wondering if the actual grill is the same but there is a different amount of chrome on them or are there two different fin sizes...

It's not just the grill chrome types that need resolving, have yyou noticed that the inticators appear to be orange  . What is going on there. If Lphong used his Leica we might have a clearer photo to examine

I agree; that G in that colour from that angle looks ungainly.

Overall though, I like the high stance of the PUR'. They definitely look better with a set of rear mudflaps. Would probably look a lot better with wider tyres as well.

On a related point, is the speedometer in a modern G adjustable electronically or mechanically for larger diameter tyres?

Speedos are adjustable for tyres, but you need a mb computer

is there a way to do this on our 300GE?

The earlier 300GE had a gear tooth that hooks on to the transfer case that can be changed for different ratios, but the later 300's/G300 had an electric hall-effect sensor that replaced the gear, so I am not sure how those can be changed, perhaps the speedometer itself has an internal gear that can be swapped...

I agree. In one review I read, these fogs were full of water after fording; not what you expect! However, they are an option, so you don't have to have them. I wonder how easy it might be to find the relevant [fog light] wire and fit your own fogs?

Re: Interesting PUR

Wiring for fogs is easy to get at, its all behind the grille (at least in W460's). Changing fogs should be a very simple task for an auto-electrician. We moved Hella's from one W460 to another yesterday in about 40 mins total. Well worth the effort:

Eddie.

If you purchased a G Professional without the optional fog lights, could you expect the wiring to be there ready to fit fogs?

I have a pair of LightForce 170 Striker driving lights [from http://www.devon4x4.com/products_a/p14c38/0/lightforce-170-lights.html ] fitted to the Wrangler and I love them. They are lightweight, completely sealed and waterproof, virtually indestructible [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_R2JLs0I5E ], can be focused, are the same diameter as 7" Hella headlights, and you can attach different filters [yellow for fog]. With the LightForce wiring loom they are connected directly to the battery and activate with high beam; there's also a dash mounted switch so that I can swith them off [probably important for MOT'].

The photo' show the differential focus; one of the lights set to distant pencil beam and the other with a wider spread.

http://www.lightforce.net.au/products

Although the 170' or 140' have a "modern" style, they would likely look OK on a G Professional.

Re: Interesting PUR

I think by German and Austrian law you must have the fogs. Maybe they can be "deleted" for non-EU delivery.
I guess that no matter what you order, the wiring will still be there. It's part of the loom.

A few shots of a G PUR off-road [in France]. I really like the heel rest for the accelerator pedal shown in the first picture. Presumably there will not be an equivalent in RHD vehicles.
