I have my January copy of Mercedes Enthusiast in my hands. Apart from the usual mix of classic Mercs and brand new Daimler-Chrysler rubbish, there is an interesting advert on page 17.

The advert is starred by Max Macarthur (owner of http://www.g-wagen.co.uk ) depicted shaking hands with Richard Hammond in the BBC Top Gear set while apparently recording the Boxing Day program when the G55K will bid for the "Coolest Car in the World" title.

So there you go. I have tried to find out more about from the BBC website but the only market-competing company in the this country funded by compulsory taxes does not feel compelled to tell its plans to its shareholder (the license payer) beyond the current week so I have been unable to confirm broadcasting times.

So please prepare your videos and DVDs for recording the Top Gear program on Boxing day.

Regards,

It's usually on BBC 2 on a Sunday anyway and it will probably be on at the usual time of 8 p.m. I have sent them scathing e-mails before for not reviewing the G55K when they review such crud as the cadillac escalade! Disgraceful!

BBC2 8.0 pm Boxing Day, it's in the Radio Times.

Not a good start, or is it?

Can somebody record it and then have it transfer to .avi so that it can be shared in the internet?

Cheers

I watched it with intrepidation: very impressive – NOT!- Driving fast it the flat bottom of a quarry with a bit of water, barely getting wet and a bit dirty. Looked very impressive for 75K and guess what the G is 25 years old and is still drivable by these geniuses. But you have to remember the G was listed as the 90 something - coolest car – after the Trabant!!!! In the same Top Gear list – guess what was 2nd – the LandRover Defender. So beware we are all driving around in something slightly less cool than an East German garbage can.

Only jealous of course

Happy New Year to all

Don't knock Jeremy for not really showing what the G can do, he was probably under instructions to give it the same gentle treatment that they have done in the past to the glorified shopping trollies posing as 4X4, you all know the ones!
I know Jeremy quite well, i look after his trees etc, and he is actually a much nicer person than comes over on TV etc. He does not profess to be the world's most knowledgable person when it comes to the off road capabilities and general build quality of 4x4 vehicles, but i think this latest peice was possibly promted by a visit from me, when i was able to drive over some of his best lawns in my gds without leaving a trace, when only a little while previous he had a real lightning fighter plane delivered and winched on to his lawn for for filming purposes, and that left ruts and tracks almost a metre deep!

Ha Ha,
I had the last laugh then,
as I put my prev. exp of Top Gear to use and decided there was no point in viewing,
I was bogged down with the in-laws anyway mind.
BUT THEY LEFT TODAY ----- HOORAY - HOORAY

It’s junk TV and as such can be amusing at times as long as you accept it is junk. Seems to be the standard thing to drive as fast as possible round a quarry and through some puddles. In fact about as fast as I’ve done in standard cars (well the specially ruggidised company car versions  )

It was however amusing the other week when Clarkson the great attempted to drive a diesel Jag around the Nurburg ring in less than 10 minutes. Only to be beaten by MK2 Golfs and a German girl in the very same Jag. Priceless :D

Was good to see a G on the telly though, albeit junk tv.. Sometime's have to wonder if those lot on Top Gear need to read the owners manual before they know what seat they should sit in while driving.. :D ..

I missed the one with the Jag at the Ring, but if the "German girl" was Sabine, well she'll beat most people round the Nurburg ring..

Anyway,, anyone got any good pics of Land Rovers in distress, preferably being towed by a G

You’ve spoilt my illusion now! OK it was Sabine but I prefer the picture of some random German girl showing him how to drive. Doesn’t explain the myriad of Mk II Golfs that went past him and which he and the production team managed to ignore.

Not sure i could post any more of those. At the time my friend thought it was funny but somehow some of the guys at work got to see them  . His sense of humor seems to have deserted him. :D

Many thanks Jesus, I missed it first time around. Well worth the download, even if a somewhat shallow appraisal of the world's best off-roader (bar one). First time I have noticed that the car was the star, rather than the egotistical presenters of this generally awful program.

Jesus,

Thank you, thank you, thank you. 3 people let me down back home. I asked 3 of my family and freinds back home to record it for me and after it was shown they all had a measly crumy excuse on why they didn't manage to tape it for me.
again - thank you, thank you, thank you.

Maybe they are trying to tell me something!!! :?

Martin.

I really enjoyed the spot the G got on Top Gear - it was that that has made me decide to sell my car and go for a G-Wagen!!!
