Just rebuilding my 2.3 petrol after timing case removal. I'm assuming the oil pump will have lost prime. Can anyone recommend a way to prime the oil pump?

Re: Priming Oil Pump

I’ve never rebuilt a 230 but have done other engines.

I removed the spark plugs and turned the engine over on the starter until I had oil pressure. No compression so little or no stress. I primed the oil ways as I reassembled things with oil.

with no oil cooler on a 230ge fill the sump to the low level mark.remove the oil filter cartridge and half fill the bowl with oil (not synthetic) and pump two or three squirts from a pump oil can into each cylinder then with plugs removed turn engine over on the starter and top up the filter bowl before it empties. oil pressure warning light should go out within one minute. replace plugs and filter. top up oil to half way and run engine. ( will be smoky for a bit) allow to cool.dip and top up oil to full mark..

One more thought, should I remove the fuel pump relay while turning it over?

Hi Andy the pump only runs for 3/4 seconds to pressurise the system but if you have fuel pipes disconnected then pull the relay for safety....

Thanks for that, I was forgetting the accumulator will ensure that fuel is pumped into the pistons anyway, which is what I was trying to avoid.
