Having just had the lower part of my G230 sorted over the summer, in time for the fun in the snow, there are rust bubbles coming through already just above both rear light clusters :(

The body guy says its coming through from the inner skin and when I take off the body lining behind the rear window in the corner, I can see daylight from the wheel well! Seems that water splashes straight from the rear wheel onto the rear quarter panel which is indeed a bit rusty. That would also account for why I have so much condensation on the rear windows (I thought that was my front carpets, but they are OK actually).

now - treating and waxoyling the inner rear quarter panel might slow the rust, but wont stop the water getting there and all about - surely someone has some best practice advice on how to better protect and block off this area? Expanding foam would definitely be a bodge!

Perhaps I am missing some lining/protection? Its the same both sides.

Replacing the rear quarter panels also wont stop the water splashing about.

Hi the 463 series have plastic wheel arch liners which serve to keep the road spray/mud/salt out of that area.but hide the mud that gets in behind the liner when you go "mud plugging"...removing the liners and pressure washing the area then coating with waxoil/dinitrol is the only treatment...the 463 liners do not fit the 460 without "profiling"..if the quarter panels and the inner panels are corroded (hence the bubbles) then replacement is the long term cure.. ..plus fitting the liners (rear only) not cheap from MB and then the waxoil/dinitrol treatment between the inner and outer panels....****or every time you wash the vehicle pressure wash the back of the quarter panels... the complete panel and frame kit for each side cost GBP 280 + vat from MB at the last count.... the labour content to remove. instal. paint and treat could cost as much as GBP 300 per side (done properly) matching the paint colour (if metallic) with water based paints can be a problem....

Mine has some additional rubber guards fitted between the mudflaps and wheel arch. Bit of a botch job and now fairly ineffective due to the decay of the rubber but OK for a quick fix I guess.

Thanks -thats a good link.
I think 300gbp is a lot for these and will think first about a home-solution.
Will let you know what I come up with. Needs to be waterproofed.

I have a complete set of non wheel arch liners. Brand new and seem to fit without any body mods? You do need to trim the front one for the chassis tube with the body mount behind the front wheel. One rear one has a crack from the bit of forcing you need to do to get them to pop into place but it is only wee and should not travel.

Ordered wrong ones.. so had to order wheel arch ones after
