Hello everyone,

I'm doing a little winter refurb on my vehicles right now. The wood trim on the dash of my '91 300GE is cracked and blistered, and I thought I would replace it. Then I got to thinking, while I'm at it, maybe when I replace the wood trim I should add accomodation for a few more switches - for auxiliary lights or on-board air or exciting accessories yet undreamt of.

Currently my dashboard trim has 3 switches (in addition to the difflock switches.) Ideally I'd like to have room for six or so. When I checked my EPC, I could find only 2 configurations: 3 switch and 12 switch. 12 is of course more than I need, and I'm almost positive that there is an option in beween. Are there any of you with early 463s that can confirm this?

Also, maybe there is someone out there who either has a different EPC than I do or is more proficient at using it who could find a part number for this mythical beast.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Captain,

My car has 8 plus the three diff-locks, but being an early 463 it includes those for the front electric windows (which were relocated to the gearlevel console as from chassis number 79 thou or so), so it coul well have just 6.

In fact, I have loads of pictures of 463 interiors and I can see that you can have 3, 5, 6,7 or 8.

Problem is that my EPC refuses to work now so I cannot help you with the parts numbers, but i vividly remember seeing loads of differnt configurations regarding the number and positioning of switches on the board.

Good luck

I have an early 463 and I have the 8 switch panel.
I have looked on my EPC and comes up with all the different panel arrangments.
If you put my chassis number in to you EPC you will see
46332817079049
Hope this helps
If not then let me know what you want and I will look for the part number you require. Otherwise I would be all day listing all the part numbers and listing the arrangements.

Martin.

I priced the switches once and they were about £25-30 each if I recall. The above is a link to the second hand place in Germany which strips and sells the parts including the centre console. You might save a few bucks going that way.

Spalding,

Although I am sure that you will pick this also from the US forum, I am putting this here for the benefif of our GWOA forum users:

Here's a wild idea...with the current trend in many sports cars (like my '03 BMW M3), why not get a piece of aluminum or steel and put it on instead of wood?? It will modernize your G-wagen. I assume that metal is easier to work on (aka cutting) and you don't have to worry about cracking or bending in the future. Replace all your wood panels with metal...that would make your G unique and modern.

Just a thought.

It's not at all a wild idea... replacing the panel with the OEM one is going to cost you a testicle and part of a second one (excuse my French), whereas you could use almost anything the retrim and/or rearrange the panel in a pleasantly-looking manner.

Two examples attached.

Cheers,

Does anyone know what the depth behind the switches where the diff locks are located is. The reason I ask is because I want to move my switches and put a double din dvd player screen there.

It´s certainly not enough for that purpose. You could barely move your hands beneath the switches once the board is put back into position.

Cheers
