instrument cluster modification for w460
Hi all,
in my remodification of my G, i thought about a few minor things. including that the 5 litre sedan i wrecked had additional hazard warning lights such as coolant level our old 460s didnt have. most importantly is the coolant level indicator. so i removed the lens from the sedan instrument cluster and fit it to the G wagens cluster (where the glow plug decal would normally go, which is not present in petrol vehicles). i practiced with the abs lens, not that i have or want this on my G! anyhow, attached are some pics with the final result actually looking pretty good in my own humble opinion! now i just need to wire it up!

Just wanted to say that I converted my 280GE to 617a turbo diesel and although you can't see it until you hook up the light that the glow plug symbol is in there already and there is an empty terminal on the back of the guage cluster that will light up when you put power to it as the light is already installed.

from memory, there are 3 screws on the back of the instrument cluster to detach the main 'circuit board'. you also have to undo two screws in the centre which holds on the white plastic bit. then you need to bend up the screw hole bit on the metal frame (you actually see it bent up in one of the pics)....if you dont do this you cant get the display out. after you have done this you rotate it out! it doesnt take long, probably 10-15 minutes to disassemble the unit.
